Minutes of October 10,1966
The Board of Trustees of the Fayetteville Public Library held its
regular monthly session on October 10,1966 at 4:00 p.m. in the
board room.
Present:Board members:Mrs.Lowell Chaney,Mr.Ellis Shelton.0sW.MeMillen.
Librarians:Mrs.Hazel Deal,Mrs.Grace Keith.
The minutes of August 8 and August 15 were read and e.pproved.Reports
of the librarian and the treasurer for September are filed with
these minutes. No actions were taken at the September meeting.
It was voted to have the back apartment of the Benedict house fum-
igated and also to ask Mr.Omohundro to make an estimate of the cost
of papering and replacing the linoleum in that apartment.
It was voted to purchase a remnant of floor covering from the January
Company at a cost of about $30 to have on hand for repairs since the
material is no longer available on the market.
The treasurer's report for September and for the third quarter
showed a balance on hand of $6,075902 on July 1.
The librarian's report showed a grand total circulation of 9,226 for
September and a registration of 218:adult 169,juvenile 49. Mrs.Deal
showed. a most interesting graphic representation of comparative
circulation trends in regional libraries of Washington and. Crawford
counties,includlhg,"one between Fayetteville and Springdale. They all
showed the normal after -summer slump.
A letter from the city manager indicated that we needed additional
fire extinguishers,payment for which may be made by us directly or
by deduction from the funds we receive from the city.It was voted
to inform the city manager that we wish to pay for them from our
budget in order that we may have a record of payment.
It was voted to remove the fence from in front of the library grounds.,
It was voted to go on record as favorAng proposed legislation to re-
move the one -mill ceiling on taxes for county libraries.
It was voted to pay expenses for our representative to the Arkansas
Library Association meeting as recommended by Mrs.Dea1.
The board adjourned at 5:22 p.m.
