HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-11-09 MinutesFayetteville Public Library Board Minutes of November 9,1964 The Board of Trustees of the Fayetteville Public Library held''its regular monthly meeting on November 9,1964 in the board room at 4:00 p.m. PresentsBoard momberssChairman Webb Williams,Mrs.Lowell Chaney, Mr.Ellis Shelton,Mr.Ted Wylie,and O.W.McMillon; Librarians:Mrs.Hazei Deal and Mrs.arace Keith. The report of the treasurer showed a balance on hand of $5992.60 on November 1. Proposed by Mr.Shelton and seconded by Mr.Wylie,the motion to ap- prove.the tentative beget for 1965 as presented by the Budget Committee was carried. The librarian's report for October showed a total circulation of 10,337 and 136 registrations. It was reported that the property east of the library was appraised by a group of realtors at $11,500.The owner's asking pride it- $15,000.Mr.Williams and Mr.Wylie consented to have a conference with Mr.AI Jones to discuss the possibility of getting help from the city for the purehase of this property.Mr.Shelten consented to have an informal talk with Mr.Warren Seagraves to secure some idea with reference to the cost of a wing in the size and style of the meeting room to be built on the east side of the library for the children's department.The entire enterprise would involve securing federal funds to.match,two dollars for one,funds that the city might furnish by a bond issue or other means.The ground floor of the proposed wing could have an important bearing on the possi- ble development of a regional library. It is noted for the reczold that the size of the lot involved is reported te90'x2641, Mrs.Keith reported that the library meeting recently held in Little Roek,whieh shg attended,was interesting and helpful.Mrs.Deal reported on the defeat of the lib iary,dovelepment plan in Benton County which delays the establishment for the present of a regional library for that county and Washington County.She reported that Crawford County is interested in such a development. The meeting adjourned at 5:12 p.m. O.W.Megillen,Secretary
