January 15,1957
The Fayetteville Public Library Board met on January 15,1957 at 7:00
p.m. in the library rooms. Mr.McWhorter presided.
Present were Mr.MeWhorter,Mrs.Deal,Mrs.Cheney,Mrs.Watson,Mr.Williams,
Mr.Rudolph,and Mr.McMillen.
The minutes of December 11,1956 were read and approved.
The report of the librarian showed a circulation of 5,445 for the
month of December.
It was voted to write Mr.Hal Douglass and Mr. L.L.Baxter,co- chairmen
of the City Water and Improvement Committee to inform them that we
should like for the Fayetteville Public Library to be included in any
drive which has as its purpose the general improvement of the city.
It was agreed that Mr.McWhorter should keep in touch with
Mr.J.D.Eagle,the new owner of the Kane lot,to see what possibility there
may yet be of securing the lot and making an exchange with the First
Christian Church along the general lines previously proposed.

Minutes of the Annual Meeting
January 15,1957
The annual meeting of the Fayetteville Public Library Association
was held on January 15,1957 in the library rooms at 8:00 p.m.
Mr.McWhorter,President of the Association,presided.
The minutes of the annual meeting of 1956 were read and approved.
The report of the treasurer showed a balance on hand of $385.96
on December 31,1956 and a total of $6960.57 in the building fund.An audit
of the treasurer's accounts made by Mr.E.A.Cowan of the First National
Bank is filed with these minutes.
The librarian reported that the book stock now has a total of 11,543,
which shows a net gain of 190 books.Books on loan from the county collec-
tion totaled 4,431,a net gain of 476 over the preceding year. Total circu-
lation for the year was,80,552 and the total registration was 1,077,an
Increase of 28.The librarian further reported on the various activities
and accpmplishments of the library during the year,the inventory of the
juvenile book collection,visiting groups during the year,the installation
of new windows,the gift of new furniture for the young people made by the
Women's Civic Club,and the service rendered by the library during the year
to the over-all program of the county.
It was voted to reelect the following to serve three-year terms on
the Boaad: Mrs.Adkisson,Mr*Greenhaw,and Mr.Rudolph.

The Fayetteville Public Library Board held its organiztional meet-
ing for the year 1957 on January 15 after the adjournment of the annual
meeting. Mr.MeWhorter presided.
The following were present:Mr.MeWhorter,Mrs.Deal,Mrs.Cheney,Mrs.Wat-
son,Mr.Williams,Mr.Rudolph,and Mr.McMillen.
The following members were elected to office for the year:

Treasurer Mrs.Lowell Cheney
The president appointed the following standing committees for the

It was voted to approve the budget for 1957 as presented by the
committee. The amount provided for is $6205.96.
