The Fayetteville Public Library Board met on May 3,1955 in the library rooms.In the
absence of the chairman, lr.P1(:PJhorter,the meeting was called to order at 7:15 by the vice-
chairman,Mr. Greenhaw.,who presided,
Members present were i,`Tr.Greenhaw,T,`rs.Chaney,Air..Rudolph,and Mr.-_cMillen. ivTrs.r)eal was
also present,
The ninutes of January 25..wexe read and approved,
The treasurer's report was presented by Mrs.Chaney. The balance at the end of March 31
was x';770.09.
Krs.:0eal presented the librarian's report.The total circulation for January was 6,780,
for February it was 6,973,E for March it was 7,110,and for April,6,497.
It was voted to authorize the Librarian to take appropriate action for rearranging the
shelving and for relighting the library rooms including new wall outlets,within the limits
of approximately �',500 and authorize the vice-chairman to contract for the work after secur-
ing permission from the mayor to install the new lights and retain ownership,
A committee consisting of 1',rs.�%Jatson,! rs. Chaney, and !,irs,Adkisson was appointed to find
''people to meet with children in connection withdirected. sunmer reading program,in which
the children will be divided into three groups which will meet once a week with the proposed
group leaders. The aim is to guide children's -reading into a more well-rounded program .
A report on the book fair held on .February 15,16,and 17 presented by I`,?rs.Beal showed
that some 1,000 persons attended,that twenty-six schools were represented,that fourteen
towns in Kadison,Benton,and v4ashington counties took part,and that the nine prizes awarded
went to young people in different schools.
Mrs.T)eal also reported that the meeting held for trustees of libraries was attended by
eighteen persons,including two county `udges,and that four different boards were represented.
The discussions centered around a handbook. for library board trustees.
