The Annual Keport of the Libra ,rian, lilrs.Deal, showed a total circulation
for the year of 78,604,whieh was an increase of more than 4,000 over 1053
That represents 4.6 books per capita,an increase from two r)er capita in ?
1950.The total book stock is now 11,311,x, net gain of 448 books. A total
of $1,239.49 was spent during the year for books;147 books were presented,
as gifts, including 39 memorial books. In addition to the book stock there
were 3,008 on loan from the county collection. That the neer' for more books
is really great is indicated by the fact that the Der capita stock is less
than one book (.8). Paid subscriptions .for periodicals amount to 41,and
the Library received 9 as gifts. A total of 1097.new borrowers registered
during the year,733 adults and 364 child.ren.The Library received a gift of
500 book supports from the 'A'oma.n's Civic Club. The Summer Reading Club for
children was a successful venture as indicated by the fact that 349 children
read 16,805 books. As usual the librarians were called upon for special ref-
erence service, for which purpose some 300 books were borrowed. from other
libraries. Another aspect of the extra service rendered is indicated by the
coming of many children from their schools to the library to complete as-
signments or search for extra material. Still another aspect of the greater
service rendered by the Library is the setting aside of reserve collections
and the wide use made of them. The Fayetteville Public Library is deeply in-
debted to Mrs.Deal and her assistants for their faithful and efficient ser -
service to the community.
It was voted to reelect Miss Julia Vaulx,Mr.E.L.lVilson,and Mr.0.1,%McMill-
