The Fayetteville Public Libr.ary'Board held a special meeting on°August 10,
1954 in the Library rooms with a special committee from the local Rotary
International.Mr.McWhhorter called the meeting to order at 8:00 p.m.
Library Board members present were,.Mr:Mc6'Vhorter,Mr,Rudolph,Mr.White,Ma7or
Scott,Mr.Wilson,and Mr.McMillen. Mrs.Deal was also present,
Rotary Club members present were,Dr®Leslie Wright,Chairman,Dr.Andrew Hall,
Mr . J . R . Kennan, and Mr . Vlebb Wi 1 l i am s .
For the benefit of the visiting committee Mr.McWhorter gave a resume of the
history and organization of the Fayetteville Public Library.
DroWright explained that at a. Rotary Club Board meeting it was proposed that
a committee be named to make suggestions for the improvement of the city.
In this connection the needs of the Fayetteville Public Library arose. Subse-
quently a committee was appointed by Rotary to meet'with the Library Board
in order to discuss the need for a new build.ing,the location of such a. build-
ing, a:nd. related matters.

The consensus of the joint meeting was that the County a.nd. City libraries be
housed 'together,that they be in a new location,and that the needs of the two
be kept befor.�the minds of the citizens of Fayetteville.
It was decided to ask Mrs.Deal to gather information about the new library
buildings being constructed elsewhere in the state,their cost,a.nd related
data and to request Dr.Hall to cooperate with her.
The chairman appointed a special Building Committee consisting ;of Mrs.Deal,
chairman,Mr.Wilson,Mr.IAlhite,and Mr.Rudolph.
