The Fayetteville Public Library Board meat on September 8,1953 in the
Library rooms®Chairman McWhorter called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m.
Members present were ldIr.MCVJhorrter,Mrs.Chaney,Mrs.Watson,Mrs.Adkisson,
Mr.R.udoluh,Mr. Greenhaw,Mr.?Vilson, end Tr2r.Mcl2illen. _� -
The minutes for the meeting held. on May 19,1953 were read shd. approved.
It was voted`to approve a resolution authorizing employees of the
Fayetteville Public Library,Inc. to qualify for social security benefits.
A signed copy is attached to the minutes of that date.
The Treasurer,Mrs.Chaney,reported a balance of 0790.88 in the First
National Bank for the period: June 1 to August 31.
The Librarian,Mrs.Deal,reported a total circulation of 29,534 for the
months of May,June,July,and August.The report included 433 recordings and.
726 periodicals.She further reported 483 new,patrons since May 1,1953
and noted that the book stock was 10,813. Mrs.Deal also reported on the
decidedly increased interest in the summer reading program over previous
years.
Mrs. Chaney .gave a resume of what the Coin nznity Chest Board wanted from
the Library Board in the form of a report on receipts,expenditures,salaries,
gifts,budget,etc.

It was voted to approve the tentative budget for 1954 and authorize the
Treasurer and the Librarian to explain to the Community Chest Board the
reason for the balance reserved for the purchase of books in the favorable
fall market and to elucidate other relevant matters.
The Chairman appointed a committee of three,Mrs.Ad.kisson,Mrs-Watson,
and. Mrs.Chaney,to render aid in connection with the visit of the Arkan-
sas Library Association to Fayetteville while on tour to various libraries
over the state in their second tour to take place in October.
