Special Meeting Minutes
June 15, 2004
Opening:
The special meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was called to
order at 7:35 a.m. on June 15, 2004 at the Walker Park Pavilion, Fayetteville,
Arkansas by Connie Edmonston.
Present:
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board members Hill, Mauritson, Marley,
Shoulders, Bailey, Pawlik Holmes, Eads; City staff Edmonston, Wright, Coles,
Malloy, and Weber and Audience.
Discussion:
Walker Park Mural Presentation
Edmonston introduced Jo Ann Kaminsky and Caleb Quinn, School -Within -A -
School, to PRAB. Lisa Netherland, Parks and Recreation Horticulturist,
explained how this project began. She noticed the need for some
improvements at the Walker Park Handball Court, in addition to adding more
art in the parks. Netherland presented the project to School -Within -A -School
and they agreed to partner on this project. The students guided by instructor
Ms. Kaminsky interviewed several people in South Fayetteville to gather
information about the history of the area and visited several area landmarks.
The funds requested will help purchase primer, paint, supplies and a special
anti -graffiti coating. Quinn explained the coating has a smooth finish to allow
for pressure washing. Many volunteers will be welcome to participate in this
project. The intention is for this to be a community involvement project. The
School -Within -A -School would like to complete the project by late October to
mid November. The project will be started as soon as the prep work is
completed on the Handball Court.
Pawlik Holmes moved to approve the requests for funds of $4,000
from the SE Park Land Dedication Fund for this project.
Hill seconded the motion.
The motion was approved 7-0-0 with Bailey, Eads, Hill, Marley,
Shoulders, Pawlik Holmes, and Mauritson voting `yes' with Colwell
absent for the vote.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:15 a.m.
