HomeMy WebLinkAbout1971-03-15 - MinutesMINUTES OF A SUBDIVISION COMMITTEE MEETING • The Subdivision Committee of the Planning Commission of Fayetteville, Arkansas, met at 11:00 A.M.- Monday, March 15, 1971, in the Office of City Planning, City Administration Building, Fayetteville, Arkansas. Members Present: Ernest Jacks, L. M. McGoodwin, Harold Lieberenz. Members Absent: Helen Edmiston. The matter for study today was a proposed Large Scale Development Plan submitted by C. T. Pearson, Jr. for construction of a shopping C.T.PEARSON, JR. center on the Southeast corner of South School Street and Sixth Street. 6th St. & School The Committee reviewed the variances granted by the Board of Adjustment and the recommendations made by the Plat Review Committee. It was suggested that Mr. Pearson get together with the Highway Department on the future width of Highway 71. The Planning Office was asked to contact Jim Selby, AHD, before the Planning Commission meeting and determine how much additional width will be needed. one Mr. Jacks did not agree to having onlynentrance on Highway 71, but he did agree that any opening there should be limited to access only. Mr. McGoodwin questioned whether anyone with the City had checked the size and design of the drainage structure. He felt that the City should write that in as a permanent water course in releasing the alley. He • asked that a memo be forwarded_fo�the City Manager requesting that the Board study this matter carefully to see that the facility is adequate in design and capacity before the alley is closed. He felt the whole area of maximum flooding needs to be considered with the City retaining the right to rebuild it or increase it. The Committee did not favor any exit onto Locust Avenue, Mr. Jacks asked about bumper guards in the parking lot to regulate parking and traffic flow, and screening along Locust Avenue., The Committee felt any additional right-of-way needed on Highway 71 should be dedicated before the plan was approved.
