MINUTES OF A POLICE PENSION BOARD MEETING
A meeting of the Police Pension Board was held on Tuesday, August 5,
1986 at 4:45 p.m. in Room 326 of City Hall.
PRESENT: Board Members: Chairman Don Grimes, Treasurer Scott
Linebaugh, Eldon Roberts, James Mashburn, Richard Hoyt,
Michael Mitchell, and Hollis Spencer; Staff: Police
Chief Bob Jones, Public Safety Director Marty Coates,
Gerald Bradley, and City Clerk Suzanne Kennedy
The meeting was called to order by Don Grimes who announced the purpose
of the meeting was to consider a request from Police Chief Bob Jones
for a medical retirement. Grimes commented that a letter had been
submitted from Jones' doctor. Grimes stated Dr. Mashburn had an
opportunity to review the letter, as well as other information, and has
recommended the medical retirement be approved.
Dr. Mashburn commented that he not only recommended that medical
retirement be granted but thought Jones should be commended for his
diligence to duty and for his performance of duties while under a great
deal of pain and stress. Dr. Mashburn stated he thought the Board
should prepare a letter of recommendation.
City Manager Grimes remarked that Jones had given a lot of years of his
life to City service.
Dr. Mashburn, seconded by Hollis Spencer„ made a motion (1) to
recommend Jones be granted medical retirement; and (2) that the Board
write a letter of commendation for Jones' outstanding performance of
duties, many times when he was having pain and difficulty, and for his
diligence in the performance of duty. The motion passed, 7-0.
City Manager Grimes thanked Jones for the years he had given to the
City of Fayetteville and expressed appreciation.
It was moved by Hoyt, seconded by Mitchell, and unanimously approved,
to adjourn the meeting at 4:10 p.m.
