The Committee reviewed a proposed PROPOSED PARKING DECK
plan for a parking deck to be located HAILEY, POWERS, FRONING, LTD.
East of East Avenue, North of Center Street
and South of Meadow. Hailey, Powers 6
Froning, Ltd. - Architects. The proposed deck will be three levels.
Hailey explained that the first level will be valet parking for the Hilton
Hotel. Some spaces may be for public use, but they will be served by valet.
The second level will be for the public, and the third is reserved at this
time for bank employees.
1. Dennis Burrack (SWEPCO): Was very concerned about the location of some of
SWEPCO's switches located at the Southwest corner of the proposed parking deck.
He stated that if anything runs over this equipment there will be an explosion.
Burrack said the area is partially protected by concrete filled iron poles.
These poles will stop a car but not a semi -truck or one of the large
Sanitation vehicles.
2. Dick Shaw (Ma Bell): Stated he has the same concerns as Burrack about the
location of Southwestern Bell equipment at the Southwest corner of the project.
3. Al Rukgaber (City Street Department). Discussed location of another steel
plat cover for catch basins.
Requested copy of the proposed floor plan.
4. Larry Poage (City Fire Department): Asked if the parking deck would be
sprinkled. Hailey stated it would not and that the first and second levels
would have a height of 6'8" from floor to beam.
Poage recommended that stand pipes be installed in the stairwells..
Two fire extinguishers will be required per floor within the deck. Poage
recommended they be placed in cabinets. Also, a fire extinguisher should
be located in the stairwell at each landing.
Place exit lights at pedestrian exit doors.
Requested drawing of floor plan.
5. Wally Brt (City Sanitation Superintendent): Stated concern about the location
of the container so near the utility companies' equipment. He stated that
there had been some revision as to the location of the container, and it is
now planned to be located further North than the present plan indicates.
There was some discussion about the possible vacation of an easement
where the utilities are located. Bobbie Jones stated that easement contains
a gas line and the Board of Directors has tabled action on the requested vacation
of that easement.
