DEPARTMENTAL CORRESPONDENCE
•
TO: Fayetteville Planning Commission
FROM: Alett S. Little, Planning Management Director
DATE: September 23, 1992
SUBJECT: Tree Ordinance
REQUEST: Consideration of a Tree Ordinance for Adoption
Attached for your information and consideration from a Planning
perspective is a Tree Ordinance which is the culmination of a nine
month drafting and writing effort by the Landscape Beautification
Committee. The Ordinance proposes tree preservation plans for all
new subdivisions, large-scale developments, and commercial
developments; promotes tree preservation in rights-of-way and on
public grounds; protects landmark and rare trees; and requires
removal of trees that cause a hazard or threat.
Prior to coming to the Planning Commission, the Tree Ordinance has
been circulated internally to all city staff for comment and a
courtesy copy with an invitation to comment sent to the Arkansas
Homebuilders Association, the Fayetteville Board of Realtors, and
the Landscape Architecture School at the University of Arkansas.
I regret that I will not be in attendance at the Planning
Commission meeting of September 28, 1992 to present this ordinance
for your approval; however members of the Landscape Beautification
Committee and Patti Erwin, City Horticulturist, and the person most
responsible for the drafting of the ordinance, will be available to
both present the ordinance and answer any of your questions. I am
pleased to recommend the ordinance both to you and to the City
Board of Directors for approval.
