HomeMy WebLinkAbout1964-07-02 MinutesJ® MINUTES OF A CITY PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING • A special meeting of the Fayetteville Planning Commission was held at 10:00 a.m. in the City Council Room in the City Administration Building on Thursday, July 2, 1964. Members present: J. F. Palmer, Henry Shreve, Allan Gilbert, Wade Fincher and Ernest Jacks. Members absent: Suzanne Lighton (vacation)., Clark McClinton, Bill Dalton and Bryan Walker. Harold E. Lieberenz, City Inspector, was also absent. The Chairman called the meeting to order. He reported that the purpose of the meeting was to take official action on two petitions for rezoning. First considered was the petition of Tom Feathers, Guardian of the person and estate of Lessie Stringfellow Read, for the rezoning of property from R -1B Single Family Residential District to C-1 Neighborhood Commercial District; said real estate is located west of Garland Avenue (State Highway No. 112) and north of Wedington Drive (State Highway No. 16). After discussion Henry Shreve moved that the Planning Commission by resolution make known to the City Council that it recommends that real estate described as follows be rezoned from R -1B to C-1: A part of the Southeast Quarter (SEy) of the Northeast Quarter (NEk) and a part of the Northeast Quarter (NEt) of the Southeast Quarter (Se4) of Section Eight (8) in Township Sixtheen (16) North, Range Thirty (30) West of the 5th Principal Meridian and being more particularly described as follows: Beginning at a point One Hundred Fifty • (150) feet South of the Northeast corner of said Northeast Quarter (NEt) of the Southeast Quarter (S51) and running thence North Seven Hundred Seventeen (717) feet along the Section line, thence West Three Hundred Forty Nine (349) feet, thence South 10 10' East Five Hundred Sixty Seven (567) feet, thence on a line in a South- east direction to the point of beginning, containing five (5) acres more or less, less and except that portion presently embraced in the right of ways of State Highways No. 16 and No. 112; and that the City Inspector be instructed to observe the setbacks necessary to continue North Street west and maintain a 60 -foot street. The motion was seconded by Ernest Jacks and passed unanimously. RESOLUTION N0, PC -11-64 WHEREAS, the Planning Commission held a public hearing at 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 19, 1964, to consider the rezoning petition of Tom Feathers at which time no quorum was present; therefore no formal recommendation could be made; and WHEREAS, at a special meeting of the Planning Commission held July 21 1964, at 10:00 A.M., and after discussion on the rezoning petition, the Planning Commission voted to make a recommendation to the City Council. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: • SECTION 1. That after study it is the opinion of the Planning Commission the rezoning from R -1B to C-1 of the property in the Northwest area of the intersection of Highway 16 and 112 be approved; and 91 SECTION 2. That upon approval of the petition of Tom Feathers, Guardian of • the person and estate of Lessie Stringfellow Read, the City Building Inspector be instructed to observe the setbacks necessary to continue North Street west and maintain a sixty (60) foot street. PASSED AND APPROVED this 'if.,!lay of , 1964. APPROVED: • J. F. PALMER, CHAIRMAN There was discussion had on the petition of Robert L. Curtis and Marilee H. Curtis, husband and wife, for the rezoning from R-2 Two Family Residential District to R-3 Multi -Family Residential District of lots 7 and 8 of Block 6 in the Rose Hill Addition to the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas. On motion by Ernest Jacks, seconded by Henry Shreve, the Planning Commission unanimously voted to recommend to the City Council that lots 7 and 8 of Block 6 in the Rose Hill Addition not be rezoned from R-2 to R-3 as petitioned. The Planning Commission members felt that the rezoning should be withheld unitl the area could be studied and consideration be given to the rezoning to R-3 of an area lying between Berry Street and North Street and between Garland Avenue and Leverett Avenue. RESOLUTION NO. WHEREAS, the Planning Commission held a special meeting for a public hearing at 4:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 9, 1964, to consider the rezoning petition of Robert Lee Curtis and Marilee H. Curtis, at which time no formal recommendation was made; and WHEREAS, at a special meeting of the Planning Commission held July 2, 1964, at 10:00 A.M., after discussion was had on the rezoning petition, the Planning Commission voted to make a recommendation to the City Council, NOW) THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS: SECTION 1. That after study it is the opinion of the Planning Commission the rezoning from R-2 to R-3 of lots 7 and 8 of Block 6 in the Rose Hill Addition to the City of Fayetteville, Arkansas, be withheld until the area could be studied and consideration be given to the rezoning to R-3 of an area lying between Berry Street and North Street and between Garland Avenue and Leverett Avenue.
