• MINUTES OF FAYETTEVILLE CITY PLANNING COYXISSION
The City Planning Commission of Fayetteville, Arkansas, met in a special called
meeting on Tuesday, January 30, 1962, at 3:30 P.m. in the Council Room in the
City Administration Building.
Present: Mr. Palmer, Miss Lighton, Mr. Caudle, Mr. Dalton, Mr. Stubblefield,
Mr. Shreve and Mr. Young.
Absent: Mr. Walker and Mr. McClinton.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Forrest Palmer. The minutes of the .
January 16, 1962 regular Planning Commission meeting were approved as written and
mailed to the members of the Planning Commission prior to the meeting.
Miss Lighton presented and read the proposed revision and amendments of the
Subdivision Ordinance. Miss„Lighton reported the revision and amendments were
the suggestions and thoughts of the committee (Miss Lighton, Mr. Nelson and
Mr. Lieberenz) appointed to study the Subdivision Ordinance. Miss Lighton moved
that said committee's recommendations be accepted and that the Planning Commission
hold a public hearing to amend the Subdivision Ordinance at the earliest possible
date and recommend to the City Council that these changes be made in the Subdivision
Ordinance. The motion was seconded by Mr. Shreve and passed unanimously. The
public hearing date was set for February 16, 1962 at 4:00 p.m.
• The Planning Commission discussed the Work Program for 1962 and the need for
professional help. After a lengthy discussion, Mr. Young moved that the Planning
Commission recommend to the City Council that the 1962 Annual Budget for the
City of Fayetteville be revised to include a sufficient amount of funds for
professional help inorder that the work program of the City Planning Commission
can be continued. The motion was seconded by Miss Lighton and passed unanimously.
Mr. Caudle was excused from the meeting by the Chairman.
Mr. Palmer requested a report from the Zone Revision Committee. Mr. Dalton,
Chairman of the Zone Revision Committee, said his committee had nothing to report
at this time.
Mr. Palmer presented the items referred to the Planning Commission for study and
recommendations by the City Council (Resolution 1-62). Mr. Shreve moved that the
Planning Commission hold a public hearing at the earliest possible date to amend
Zoning Ordinance No. 1239 whereby the Planning Commission of the City of
Fayetteville, Arkansas, can initiate proposed amendments to the Fayetteville
Zoning Ordinances and to amend Zoning Ordinance No. 1239 to change the regulations
governing the size of signs required by the Zoning Ordinance for rezoning procedure
and for appeals to the Board of Adjustment. Miss Lighton seconded the motion and
the motion passed unanimously.
Miss Lighton moved that the Planning Commission hold a public hearing at the
earliest possible date to consider amending the zoning Ordinance No. 1239 whereby
• school construction would not have to be appealed to the Board of Adjustment
before a building permit could be issued. The motion was seconded by Mr. Shreve
and passed unanimously. In connection with this same matter, the Chairman reported
that he had received several telephone calls requesting information regarding a

• state statute in which the location of proposed schools must be presented to the
Planning Commission for approval if said Planning Commission exists inorder to
ascertain said location does not conflict with future city planning.
The Chairman appointed a+committee consisting of Mr. Nelson, Miss lighton and
Mr. Young to study and chekc the state statute to see if the statute applied to
public assemblies as well as schools and prepare the wording of the proposed
amendments mentioned above.
Mr. Stubblefield moved that the Planning Commission adjourn.. The motion was
seconded by Mr. Dalton and passed unanimously, whereupon the C declared
the meeting adjourned.
