The meeting was called to order at 9:00 a.m. by Miss Suzanne Lighton. Planning Commission members present: Miss Lighton, Mr. McClinton, Mr. Stubblefield, Mr. Young, Mr. Caudle, Mr. Shreve, Mr. Palmer and Mrs. Siegel. Board of Adjustment members present: Mr. J. I. Smith, Mr. G. L. Bowen, Mr. J. A. Pennington and Mr. T. M. Schiewetz. Other present at the meeting: Mr. Sharrah, Mr. Bradford, Mr. and Mrs. Duncan, Mr. Bryan Walker, Mr. L. L. Baxter, Mr. H. E. Lieberenz and Mr. Raymond Nelson. Miss Lighton asked Mr. Palmer to explain the position of the Planning Commission in the University Baptist Church rezoning request. Miss Lighton then asked Mr. Smith to tell how the Board of Adjustment arrived at a compromise between the property owners on the east and the University Baptist Church representatives. Miss Lighton asked the property owners and the church representatives to speak. After considerable discussion between the Planning Commission and the Board of • Adjustment, the Board of Adjustment members met to discuss the problem. Mr. Smith announced that since the Board of Adjustment was not in official session, they would take no action. He did, however, suggest that there could be further negotiation with regard to the setback line, that the Planning Commission proceed with the means available to them; and that the members of the Board of Adjustment doubted the legality of altering their decision without proper advertised hearing. Miss Lighton stated that the motion of the preceding meeting of the Planning Commission was still in effect and that the Planning Commission recommends to the City Council the rezoning of the University Baptist Church property to P—lA. The time for the next meeting was set for 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 19, 1961. The meeting adjourned. 40
