HomeMy WebLinkAbout1961-01-17 Minutes• MINUTES OF FAYETTEVILLE CITY PLANNING COMMISSION Chairman Emory Gose called the meeting to order on January 17, 1961 Planning Commission members present: Mr. Yoe, Mr. Caudle, Mr. Young, Miss Lighton, Mr. Shreve, Mr. Phelps, Mr. Stubblefield, Mr. Gose and Mrs. Siegel. Others present at the meeting: Mr. Raymond Nelson, Mr. Austim Parish and Mr. Jim Hatfield, Miss Lighton made the motion that the Planning Commission recommend for rezoning the area requested by Austin Parish from R-2 Residential to Neighborhood Commercial subject to the following conditions: 1. That the master street plan be incorporated in the plan for the opening of North Street; 2. That the Old Mt. Comfort Road from Oakland to Garland be closed; 3. That there be no entrances or exits on Garland that entrances be onto North Street; 4. That a stop light be installed at the intersection of North and Garland. Mr. Stubblefield seconded the motion. After considerable discussion, Miss Lighton made a substitute motion: that the Planning Commission recommend granting of the Austin Parish petition for rezoning a portion of land adjacent to North Garland Avenue from R-2 Residential to Neighbor- • hood Commercial with the provision that Mt. Comfort Road be vacated from Garland to the east line of his property and that (pending a traffic survey of the area) only one (1) entrance and no exits be established on Garland and that there be an access (dedicated street) from the N.E, corner of the tract into Holly Street. We further recommend: 1. That the area running south from the south line of the property covered by the petition to North Street and from the east line of the southern part of the property to the rear property line of the lots on the west side of Oakland be similarly rezoned; 2. That Mt. Comfort Road be vacated from the rear line of the property on the west side of Oakland to the east line of the property for which rezoning has been requested subject to a public hearing in accordance with specified procedures; 3. That North Street be opened in accordance with the Major Street Plan east and west of Garland. 4. That a stop light be installed at the intersection of North and Garland. Mr. Stubblefield seconded the motion. The motion carried unanimously. Mr. Young made the motion that Shaddoxts petition for similar rezoning on the west side of Garland be granted. Mr. Phelps seconded the motion. After discussion, the motion failed to carry. 0
