FAYETTEVILLE PLANNING COMMISSION
October 27, 1959
The Fayetteville Planning Commission met at 4:00 p.m.
on October 27, 1959, with Chairman Clay Yoe presiding and
with other members present being George Caudle, Jim Phelps,
Garland Wheeler, Paul Young, Jr., E. E. Gose, and Suzanne
Lighton. Also present was Raymond Nelson of the University's
Planning Division.
The proposed Land Use Plan, including the detailed
proposal and attached maps, was submitted for consideration.
Map 1 designates the generalized suggested logical long-
term uses of the area one mile outside the City limits;
uses are not suggested for the remaining four miles of
the total five -mile area outside the City limits:as this
four -mile territory is considered agricultural except
where some use -.already exists (Drake Airport, Lake Wilson
and Lake Sequoyah),
Map 20 covering the area within the City, points
out areas as to which it is suggested that (a) conservation,
(b) rehabilitation, or (c) clearance, be applied.
The detailed Land Use Plan points out, and discussion
about the proposal emphasized, that the Land Use Plan gives
the City no absolute control of the use to which the area
outside the City limits may be put, but is a suggested
pattern for future growth; that Map 2 (the area within the
City) also is generalized, its objective being to call at-
tention to general areas and their needs with no attempt
to fix definite boundary lines of the Several areas; that
implementing the Land Use Plan depends on other tools:
subdivision regulations ordinance, zoning ordinance, etc.
On motion of Mr. Gose, seconded -by Mr. Young, it was
unanimously voted that the Planning Commission approve this
final report of the Land Use Committee and that the Planning
Commission recommend -',.to the City Council that the proposed
Land Use Plan be adopted.
Respectfully submit
