HomeMy WebLinkAbout1959-03-24 MinutesO IAINUTES OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS, PLANNING COIf9ISSION March 24, 1959 The Fayetteville City Planning Commission met in special session at four p.m., on ':arch 24, 1959, with Ceorge Caudle, vice chairman, presiding in the absence Clay Yoe, chairman. Other members present were 'aul Young, E. E. Gose, Hugh Stubblefield, Garland Wheeler, and Suzanne Lighton, Leonard Greenhaw, attorney for the petitioners, pre- sented the petition of 1rs. Shannon 2ohart, " rs. R. D. Baldwin, and F, A..Humphreys, for the a-endment of the City Zoning Ordinance; this petition was a nen petition set for hearing on this date after due notice�£ollowing the withdrawal•of.an earlier petition which had asked for the re -zoning from C Zone to r'Zone of an area lying betvieen the West line of the present ICA store parking plot and the East line of Highland Avenue, and running Vorth approximately 170 feet from the North line of O Lafayette Street. �J After discussion, 'Ir. Young. moved, `Ir. Stubblefield seconded, and it vias unanimously voted, that the planning commission recommend to the layetteville Oity ^ouncil the amendment of the present Zoning Ordinance to include "Reserved Puking Lots" as a permitted use AAL Zone C. The discussion had br�uFht out that Zine C roar permits hotels and tourist courts, community garages, and other similar uses. A "Reserved Parking Lot," the discussion also brought out, is defined as "A narking lot, the use of which is reserved for customers of an ad scent business, and for,the use of which no charge is mado.' On motion of ''.r. Stubblefield, seconded by 'Jr. Wheeler, it was unanimously voted that the Planning "ommission recom- mond to the City Council that the petition of H. K. King for the abandonment of a 10 foot alley running rest - West between Lots 13 and 142 dock 110 Mountain View Addition to the City of Fayetteville# be granted. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned. unne Chalfant ton, T Secretary The rayetteville Planning Commission met in regular sessi on Tuesday, February 3, 1959 with George Caudle, Vice - Chairman, presiding in the absence of Clay Yoe, Chairman. Other members present were Hugh Stubblefield, Vim B. Putman, Jim Phelps and Emory E. Gose with ler. Gose acting as secretary. Also present were airs. Archer and :9rs,Benedict, reprosenting tho League of Women Voters, and Mr. Raymond Nelson and Ilr. Kenneth Thompson from the University Planning Division. On motion by Mr. Putman, seconded by Mr. Phelps, i unanimously voted that the proposed new zoning map now drawn be annroved. The toaster Street Plan, as so far developed committee on streets and troroughfares, was detai-l. The plan is not yet ready for fire but it was the consensus of the mebtinF thr should be given to the following points for in the following order: 1. Run -North Street straiFht across Highwa; (Garland Avenue).' 2. Open School Street as much and as fast i alternate North-South thorou§hfare. 3.
