Price Avenue in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The meeting was held to determine the neighborhood's choice of playground equipment for the park. Attending the meeting were Ward 1 Aldermen Robert Reynolds and Brenda Thiel. Staff present were Connie Edmonston, Kim Rogers, Eric Schuldt, and John Nelson. Approximately twelve neighborhood residents also attended the discussion and cast their vote. Addition of playground equipment would continue park improvements which have included a pedestrian/vehicular bridge, an asphalt parking lot, and abasketball goal. Because Greathouse Park is located in a floodway, strict Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) guidelines limit the type ofstructure(s) and its location. Ms. Rogers introduced two designs or themes approved by FEMA. Both play structures meet the performance and safety requirements ofASTM for children ages 5-12 and upon installation would meet all Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements. The play structures, designed by Little Tikes Commercial Play Systems, included a MaxPlayTM system designed for early grade school children to preteens and a nautical theme offering imagination play. Ms. Rogers expressed appreciation for Terry Jordan's assistance distributing flyers around the neighborhood and obtaining absentee votes. Over eighty residents completed ballots and unanimously chose the MaxPlayTM system. One concern for the roof structures was the possibility of wasps nesting inside. Shading the structure was another request. Ms Rogers said the horticulturist could possibly plant trees to address the shade concem. Alderman Robert Reynolds urged neighborhood residents to watch over the park and report vandalism and other criminal activity Ms Edmonston said neighborhood mvolvement was an important part oftaking care of the park system. The meeting adjourned at 5:55 p.m. August 8, 2001 / Page 1 • Greathouse Public Meeting • • August 8, 2001 Absentee Comments/Requests are as follows; 1) Lighting for the basketball courts 2) Merry Go Round put back into the park - 3 separate comments 3) Playground to be in the shade 4) Monkey bars put back into the park 5) More swings 6) Walking trail to the playground 7) Fencing to prohibit basketballs going into the creek from the basketball court • • • WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8, 2001 GREATHOUSE PARK MEETING NAME (Please Print) NAME (Please Print) l< ak Van ' 'A G S Se* , I tin\ 1 aittp,Sc;l4:(2(i --at!
