PUBLIC MEETING
LEWIS SOCCER COMPLEX
MAY 22, 2001
The Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Division hosted a public meeting on Tuesday, May 22, 2001 at 5:30
p.m. at Lewis Soccer Complex located at 1515 N. Lewis Avenue in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The meeting
was held to solicit input on the development of an additional parking lot and expansion of playing fields.
Parks and Recreation Advisory Board members present included Bob Shoulders, Kyle Cook, Mike Hill,
and Gail Eads. Staff present were Connie Edmonston, Eric Schuldt, Terry Gulley, Tracie Evans, and City
Engineer Jim Beavers.
Plans for a 256 -space parking lot was presented which included the required amount of accessible spaces
[Ref. Chapter 172 of Unified Development Ordinance] and bicycle parking racks [Ref. Ord. No.
4293]. A sidewalk parallel to Mt. Comfort Road will be constructed along the property line. Mr. Beavers
encouraged residents to lobby with Chuck Rutherford, City Sidewalk Coordinator, to continue the
sidewalk eastward. Ms. Edmonston discussed landscaping plans and methods to shelter the parking lot
from residential areas [i.e. construction ofaberm]. When asked about existing parking, Mr. Beavers stated
there appeared to be 134 current parking spaces. Additionally, aregulation-size and a smaller soccer field
are also proposed. The Fayetteville Parks and Recreation Division soccer program has experienced an
explosion of growth and accommodations must be addressed This project will be presented to the Planning
Commission on May 29, 2001. Construction is expected to begin during the month of July.
Mr. Gulley explained plans for planting more boundary trees. Ms. Joyce Richards, a neighborhood resident,
expressed concerns about the amount of litter being left behind. She suggested soccer coaches instructing
their players to pick up trash before leaving the playing area.
The meeting adjourned at 5:47 p.m.
