SPECIAL MEETING
APRIL 15, 1997
A meeting was held at 6:30 p.m., April 15, 1997, on site at the
Hillborn Heritage Foundation (formerly Northwest Arkansas
Zoological Society) located west of the Lake Fayetteville dam and
south of the softball fields. Attending were Aaron Bleidt, Rodney
Staggs, and staff members Nancy Dugwyler and John Nelson. Cynthia
Haseloff, Lois Slusarek, Karen Inlow, Carl Totemeier, David Nolan,
Shannon Pore, and Gypsy the dog were also present.
There was not a quorem present. Bleidt and Staggs toured the area
with Haseloff. Bleidt questioned the impact if land usage were
granted, and it was determined that there would be virtually no
impact on the environment. Hillborn is interested only in making
soft trails and minor related trail work. Their wish is to be self -
supported, and the initial phase of their project would be launched
as a test to see if the area wants something like Hillborn
Children's Heritage Farm. Inlow stated that the education community
is very interested in the proposed plan, and Hillborn has done
summer education co-ops and conducted programs at the Jones Center
for Families. Hillborn would house domestic animals and endangered
breeds on their existing land with larger animals perhaps guesting
from time to time. This project would be aimed at children.
Hillborn provided a light dinner to guests. The Hillborn Heritage
Foundation will be an agenda item on the May Parks and Recreation
Advisory Board agenda. Staff will make a recommendation to PRAB
regarding land usage proposal.
Meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m.
John Nelson, Clerk
