REGULAR MEETING
JULY 3, 1995
Driver, Mackey, Richard, Stone
James, Knight, Waite, Savage
Clark, Cox
Wayne Beach -Babe Ruth President, Joe Robson
Rusty Garrett, Ron Wood
The meeting was called to order at 5:30 pm by Susan Driver in room
219 of the City Administration Building.
There was not a quorum present, therefore minutes from the June
meeting were not approved.
I. BABE RUTH FALL BASEBALL PROGRAM
Driver: How will these games be scheduled?
Beach: We will schedule around school,
Just one game on school nights.
Driver: Did games go late last year?
Mackey: No I don't remember turning the
focus is an instructional league.
Beach: It is a two fold deal:
opportunity to practice and have

football, etc.
lights on. Our

game situations. This
at a certain level to
have more practice time and it will also allows the
overall league to strengthen far as training volunteer
coaches etc. There will be about 12 kids on a team I
would not be surprised to have 100 kids.
Clark: Football coaches have expressed to me that this
interferes with their interested kids but I feel they
will play the game they are really interested in.
Beach: It is our intention to make this an instructional
situation knowing that school and football practice come
first.
Driver: I like the idea of positions rotating. Most
people never get the chance to try other positions.
Mackey: It is quite an experience for a 13 year old with
average talent to play against a 15 year old. Last year
we saw a great difference in these kids.
Driver: Thank you for all your volunteer work.
II. GREEN SPACE REPORT
1
Clark: We are $10,000 short on the Wilson Park Trail? We
have $9,000 in green space funds which will get it close
enough to make it a viable project. On girl's softball,
design work should be done withing 60 days. Drainage is
the major concern.
Richard: What happened with the green space funds for
the gyms?
Driver: It was deemed illegal. What we will do is use
sales tax and the projects that are needed to be made up
might come out of green space.
III. HMR
Susan: The second reading of the City Council to place
the HMR tax on the ballot will be Wednesday night. If it
is passed we would like to get information out to the
ballfields. It should be a single page flyer. Sturman
will help with distribution at baseball fields.
Mackey: We just need to get a fact sheet together. This
is justified.
Driver: The gyms are crucial for the future due to
population increase.
Robson: I am concerned with the City and money being
wasted. I believe there is lots of money out there and
I believe Parks should get some of it. We have been
misinformed about things. People are using things for
their personal gain. The lawyers are making lots of
money. We have paid for professional advice up front.
The issues are simple. Supreme court backed up my
position 7 years ago. We want the city to get the
information they need to do the right thing not get bad
advice. I would favor a tax of this kind. I am for
Parks and Recreation.
Driver: I agree with you that there is money available
for Parks and Recreation. The hamburger tax is a very
liberal tax. It is probably not enough to catch us up
for the past 10 years. I do feel Alderman Bassett's
reservations were because of the incinerator and the
county tax.
Mackey. I admire you for coming ahead of time with your
concerns. I feel we have a good plan for the way we are
growing. You can't imagine what a new field could mean to
a kid. This way the kids are not out somewhere they
should not be.
Robson: I know. I have six kids, and want same things
you want.
The meeting adjourned at 6:O5pm.
