BUSINESS
I. PARK MAINTENANCE DISCUSSION
Clark reported that Maintenance Supervisor, Bob Braswell
has been given permission to employ two additional summer
workers immediately. Palmer asked if these two positions
would get the parks back to the level of maintenance the
PRAB had requested at an earlier meeting.. Braswell
stated that it would make a big improvement but the
situation will still need to be evaluated in the future.
The public should begin to notice a difference in the
parks within two or three weeks. Alexander asked how
much maintenance was lost when the horticulturist was
changed to the Planning Division. Braswell reported that
the horticulturist was in charge of'flowerbeds, shrubs,
trees, watering, herbicides, and fertilizers. Braswell
has had to take workers from such jobs as mowing, general
repairs, and edging/trimming to fill the horticulturist
duties. Palmer asked Braswell how many more workers were
needed to keep the parks in good condition. Braswell
stated four more would make a big difference. Robertson
stated the herbicide issue should be decided by next
summer. Munsell reported that a new schedule of four ten
hour days was being experimented by the Street and Parks
Divisions. This should increase productivity. Edmonston
reported that the Adopt -A -Park program should help with
the shortage in maintenance. Maintenance workers will be
in the new personnel requests for 1992.
OTHER BUSINESS
Palmer stated that on. field #3 at Lake Fayetteville there
was a glare, therefore, a screen or net should be
installed behind the bleachers.
The meeting adjourned at 6:10 p.m.
