VI. HERBICIDE TASK FORCE MEETING
Einert stated that growth retardants are not herbicides
and should not be treated as one. Anderson expressed his
concern for safety on athletic fields if unwanted and
clumpy vegetation were not controlled with the use of
herbicides. Dr. King was present to voice his opinions
on herbicide use. He stated the athletic fields need a
good maintenance program, which includes herbicides, to
ensure the safety of the participants. It was stated
that herbicides are needed for health, welfare, and
safety. Palmer stated that the use of herbicides is the
most economical and reliable method for controlling
unwanted vegetation, especially at a time when efforts
are being made to reduce costs.
MOTTON:AT.RXANDER/EINERT
The PRAB recommends to support the concept of a long term
vegetation management program to ensure proper
maintenance of safe parks and recreational areas in a
most cost effective manner. At this time, the program
can only be accomplished with an integrated program which
includes appropriate herbicide application. There are
portions of the proposed herbicide policy that are
excessively cumbersome and restrictive to this goal. It
is further recommended to forward this statement to the
Herbicide Task Force.
