HomeMy WebLinkAbout1990-03-05 - MinutesPRAB REGULAR MEETING MARCH 5, 1990 The meeting was called to order by Rodney Ryan at 6:00 p.m. in the Root School Cafeteria. Members Present: Staff Present: Guests Present: BUSINESS: Alexander, Robertson, Anderson, Colwell, Kimbrough, Ryan, Waseleus, White Clark, Cox, Edmonston LeAnn Crawley, Ron Wood I. MOTION:ALEXANDER/KIMBROUGH The minutes from the February 19, 1990 meeting were approved unanimously 7-0. II. FACILITIES REPORT: LAKE FAY NORTH/ALEXANDER Alexander contacted Chief Stepp from Springdale Police Department. He said they have no problem with the street being closed at Turner Street. There will be a dead end sign put up to prevent accidents. MOTION:COLWELL/ROBERTSON The Parks and Recreation Advisdry Board recommends to the City Board of Directors to put a permanent gate at the north park boundary of Lake Fayetteville at Turner Street and a gate to be opened daily at the boat dock entrance. MOTION APPROVED UNANIMOUSLY 8-0 PARK EVALUATIONS Parks evaluation forms were given to each PRAB member. Each member chose three parks in which to inspect and evaluate over the next two weeks. Colwell-Sweetbriar, Routh, Gulley Waseleus-Happy Hollow, Root, Butterfield Alexander -Lake Fayetteville South, Leverett, Hotz Kimbrough-Lake Fayetteville Softball and North, Finger Anderson-Asbell, Walker North and South, Bryce Davis Robertson -Lake Wilson, Lake Sequoyah, Jefferson White -Wilson, Gregory, Bates The tour to view the parks will be scheduled for the first part of April. PRAB Page 2 IV. ANNUAL CITY BOARD MEETING The Annual City Board/PRAB meeting will be scheduled sometime in April. Ryan will set the date with the City Board. V. FYC POOL A decision will be made at the City Board meeting on Tuesday, March 6, 1990 concerning approval to proceed with the bid package. Next PRAB meeting will be March 19, 1990 Minutes Approved ecretary _J PUBLIC MEETING RIDGEWAY AND SHADOWRIDGE MARCH 5, 1990 The meeting began at 7:00 p.m. with a short introduction by Rodney Ryan, the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board Chairman. The following comments or ideas were expressed by the citizens: *Do you mow all of the area? As much as safely possible *The cost of $4,000 for maintenance seems high. *Any thought of making it mowable? *Potential for this area to be attractive? Vorsanger: Do not have money to maintain this area? Bob Kelly: There is a hope that the neighborhood would be interested in adopting the park. Mrs. Teas: There was a contract in 1967 that said the City Beautification Committee would maintain this area. *We don't have the equipment, do you expect us to maintain the area? Why don't you plant trees on it. *I don't favor trees, I like the view, I could buy a special mower if it came to that. *Some suggestions: Trees, flowers, groundcover, or rocks. *Many of the neighbors already maintain the area in front of their house and have for years. Glover: This property is not only used by the owners but also is a public trust. City and PRAB are to make decisions for the area. Teas: The Parks Department has maintained the area for years. It is a visual park. *The PRAB has done a good job! Young: Has lived on East Ridgeway since 1956. He tried planting forsythes but they were mowed down when the City crew mowed. *The Parks Director informed all citizens that they should contact *Have any trees been cut by the Parks Department? Only the ones that are dangerous to the mowers. Smith: What are we faced with? Yes. Budget cuts? Vorsanger: The right of ways are obstructed because of some of the trees. *The area around the point is always trashed because younger people always park their cars their on the weekends and throw trash out. Is there a way a barricade could be installed there to prevent this? *Are other Parks being looked at for budget cuts? Yes, all parks are being reviewed for cuts. *Some would like to see park future. *The City has dug a ditch for Shadowridge. benches and a fitness trail in the better drainage on the west side of Emmie Anderson: Does not like the idea of groundcover. be like Bella Vista.
