HomeMy WebLinkAbout1989-09-25 - MinutesPRAB REGULAR MEETING SEPTEMBER 25, 1989 The meeting was called to order by Charlie Sego at 5:05 p.m. in the City Administration Building room 111. Members present: Alexander, Colwell, Lucas, Melton, Ryan, Sego, Waite Staff present: Clark, Cox, Edmonston Guests present: David Cox, Ron Cook from The Springdale News, Dr. Pete Heinzelmann BUSINESS I. MOTION:RYAN/ALEXANDER The minutes from the September 11, 1989 meeting were approved unamimously 7-0. SOCCER REPORT II. Dr. Pete Heinzelmann from the Soccer Association gave a report on soccer. There are 35 recreational teams that started play at Asbell on September 23, 1989 and there are 6 classic teams which started play three weeks ago. The classic teams play here and in other towns. Mark House is the scheduling coordinator for the Soccer Association. Edmonston gave Heinzelmann a copy of the Parks Facility Use Policy and some forms for reservation of the fields to give to Mark House. The Board told Heinzelmann that from now on anyone using City fields will need to fill out a reservation form. Alexander told Heinzelmann that in the past scheduling has not been done through the Parks Director. Heinzelmann said that some of the teams that play at Asbell are not with the Soccer Association. Sego said that scheduling is very important mostly because maintenance of the fields must be done. Waite requested Heinzelmann to spread the word that groups need to reserve the fields. Reservation signs were also discussed. GREEN SPACE IV. Paradise View Estates Owner/developer: Jim Lindsey Park District: Northeast Location: Hwy 265, East of Sweetbriar Park Single Family Dwellings: 19 Land Dedication Requirement: .24 acres Money in Lieu: $1,995 PRAB p.2 MOTION:MELTON/LUCAS PRAB recommends to accept the money in lieu, $1,995, for the Green Space requirement of Paradise View Estates. MOTION APPROVED UNAMOUSLV 7-0 HOOPIN-IT-UP V. Clark reported on the Hoopin-It-Up tournament held on September 23 and 24, 1989. It was a three on three basketball tournament held at the University of Arkansas. There were 91 teams involved each paying an entry fee of $60. Clark said everyone had a really good time and the tournament will be an annual fund raising event for the Youth Center. POOL RENOVATION VI. Clark reported on the Youth Center Pool Renovation. The architects, Crafton, Tull, and Associates presented a price range of $670,000 to $880,000. There will be a meeting of the Youth Center Board and the Parks Board to review the plans and to make a recommendation to the City Board of Directors. Waite requested that the engineer be at this meeting to answer any questions. Edmonston stated that Bob Kelly has requested $860,000 for CIP. OTHER BUSINESS PLAYGROUND EQUIPMENT VII. Edmonston reported that the tot playground at Asbell is installed except for one hand grip which is on its way. Modern Fence will be building a fence soon. DANCE VIII. Edmonston reported that there are 97 students in the Fall Dance Program. Mirrors were purchased for the dance program which cost $347. DAY CAMP IX. Edmonston reported that the Youth Center Day Camp Program won the state award at the state ARPA conference held at Degray State Park. There were approximately a total of 400 children in the 1989 Day Camp Program. PRAB p.3 MISCELLANEOUS X. Lucas asked about the possibility of starting an adult dance class. Edmonston said they have tried country and ballroom dancing before but not enough people joined. The Turkey Trot will be held on November 12, 1989. Merlin Seamon and Mark Robinson will be at the next meeting to present the proposed Gulley Park Master Plan. The meeting was adjourned at 6:05 p Minutes approved: ) MY- ecretary
