MOUNTAIN 72701 (501) 521-7700 PRAB REGULAR MEETING March 7; 1988 Chairman Bill Waite called the Regular Meeting of the Parks and Advisory Board to order at 5:05 p.m. Members Present: Colwell, Lashley, Lucas, Melton Ryan, Sego, Waite, Yarbrough Staff Present: Clark, Edmonston, Speck Guests Present: BUSINESS: Brant Baird; Ron Caviness; Tracey Metzger, Special Events Coordinator for the Fayette- ville Youth Center; Tim Wood.;. John Stephens; Jeannie Wyatt I. Minutes of the Regular PRAB Meeting, held February 15, 1988 were approved. II. ZOO PROPOSAL FOR FAYETTEVILLE - John Stephens John Stephens presented documentation on United States Zoos. He indicated Fayetteville would be a prime area for a Zoo, which would require a feasibility study prior to three phases of creation. MOTION: LUCAS/RYAN PRAB recommends that the Facility Committee study the Zoo proposal, after which recommendations and answers will be given at a later date. Motion passed unanimously. (8-0) III. TEAM TENNIS - Jeannie Wyatt Team Tennis requested the use of the Wilson Park Tennis Courts for reciprocity in hosting teams from Fort Smith, Little Rock, and Pine Bluff. MOTION: COLWELL/RYAN PRAB recommends Team Tennis be allowed to use the Wilson Park Tennis Courts, from10.:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (approxi- mately) on April 10, April 16, and April.23. PRAB further recommends that Team Tennis poSt signs 'indicating dates and times of the tournament. Motion passed unanimously. (8-0) FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT 113 W. RADIO CONTROLLED AUTO RACE TRACK - Grant Baird, Ron Caviness Tim Wood Baird, Caviness, and Wood requested the use of the old Model Airplane strip at Lake Fayetteville for low noise level, radio controlled car racing. The participants would build the 80'x140' dirt track, pick up trash, and maintain the lawn near the track. Approximately thirty (30) people race the radio controlled autos every other Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Membership fee is $20 and will be available at the track. The fee includes insurance for race days. 6:10 p.m. Beverly Melton excused. MOTION: RYAN/LUCAS PRAB grants approval for the Radio Controlled Auto Race Club to use thedirt track at Lake Fayetteville; however, the group must work with Dale Clark and Connie Edmonston for site selection and maintenance. Motion unanimously approved. (7-0) V. PRAB COMMITTEES Appointment of PRAB Committees was postponed until the next regular meeting. VI. P.T.O. MEETINGS - Edmonston The following PTO Meetings have been set: SCHOOL Jefferson Root Leverett Bates Asbell Butterfield Washington DATE 3-7-88 3-8-88 3-10-88 4-28-88 5-16-88 7 PRAB REPRESENTATIVE Waite, Clark, Edmonston Waite, Clark Yarbrough, Clark, Edmonston Ryan, Lucas, Clark, Edmonston 7 6:15 p.m. Dr. Ryan excused VII. HIGH SCHOOL BASEBALL.UPDATE'= High. School Baseball has been unable to have tryouts due to the weather; however, sixty (60) individuals want to play, and there are only twenty-five (25) uniforms. Yarbrough stated he had shared the Combs Park. Layout with the group, who is planning to survey.. businesses and industrial employees who may._be interested in using the facilities. No money would be required from the Parks Department for these_Badly needed practice. fields. IX. - mSOCCER -- Edmonston .Soccer starts Saturday, March. 12, at Asbell School. X. RESTROOM ARTICLE-- Ednionsten Edmonston reported the Restroom Article, prepared_by Dale Clark and Connie Edmonston was published again in CITY AND TOWN. XI. SOFTBALL MEETING - Clark Clark talked about the Softball Meeting Mark Paul held on March 1, at 9:00 p.m. There may be ninety-two (92) teams this year, and the program is still growing.
