MOUNTAIN 72701 (501) 521-7700 PRAB REGULAR MEETING June 15, 1987 The Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board came to order at 5:00 p.m., Room 326, City Hall. Colwell, Lashley, Lucas, Melton, Ryan, Waite, York Clark, Edmonston, Reid, Speck Dr. Pete Heinzelmann, Mark House, Sid Norbash Minutes of the Mary 4, 11, 18, and June 1 PRAB meetings were approved. SOCCER FIELDS -SID NORBASH - DR. PETE HEINZELMANN The budget request of $20,000 for the Walker Park North Soccer Project was reduced to $14,000 during the budget review. Mr. Norbash, Assistant Maintenance Superintendent, requested input from PRAB since the soccer field budget had been reduced, and engineering fees would run from $1,000-$1;,500, and top soil charges would run from $10,000-$15,000. The following possibilities for improving the fields were discussed: crowning, stepping enlarging present fields, which offers greater versatility as well as multi-purpose use. Recommendations: Fields 1 and 2, 150 x 225; Fields 3, 4, and 5, 195 x 300; Fields 6 and 7, 105 x 150. Olympic Requirements are 195 x 300 minimum, 225 x 360 maximum; Adult fields are 345 x 210 (for tournaments) Since there is limited real estate east and west, Fields 3 and 4 could be made as large as possible, so that high school and adults can play there. The possibility of acquiring additional land on Block Street was requested. Melton recommended the suggestions be taken to the Soccer Association for further input before their July 7 meeting. D II. MOUNTAIN 72701 (501) 521-7700 PRAB - REGULAR MEETING - June 15, 1987 Page Two WALKER PARK NORTH SOCCER - CONTINUED MOTION: RYAN/YORK PRAB recommends that the soccer fields be redesigned so that it is possible to see what we are looking at for soccer fields, with the understanding that the east bank NOT be cut into, doing the best we can within limitations, making Fields 1 and 2, and 6 and 7 into one field, so that they can be used either way, and crowned north and south, actually making four fields. Motion passed unanimously. (7-0) Norbach stated the layout can be provided in ten days; however, it would take two weeks to complete the drawings. This would mean actual construction could not start before the end of August or mid-September. Irrigation of the fields was discussed. House stated the Soccer Association has made a commitment to put in an irrigation system at the fields, with clamp -in, clamp -out receptacles beneath the ground surface. The water and labor bills would be paid for the first year by the Association; however, proposals will be presented to PRAB at a later date.
