MOUNTAIN 72701 (501) 521-7700 PRAB REGULAR MEETING May 4, 1987 The Regular Meeting of the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board came to order at 5:05 p.m. Minutes of the April 6, 1987 and April 20, 1997 PRAB Regular Meetings were approved. Colwell, Lashley, Lucas, Melton, Ryan, Waite, York CLARK, EDMONSTON YOUTH BASEBALL CLINIC REPORT The Parks and Recreation Department sponsored a Youth Baseball Clinic on Sunday, May 3, at Walker Park, from 1:30 - 4:30 p.m. The clinic was for coaches, players, and spectators. There was an estimated crowd of eighty-five youth and 25 coaches. NAVCO donated cokes for all participants. Members of the Razorback Baseball Team, Tim Sherrill, Andy Skeels, and Mike Sisco spoke on pitching, hitting, fielding, base running, and baseball strategies.. PRAB recommended that one clinic for coaches and one clinic for players be held. LAKE FAYETTEVILLE DOGWOOD PARK PROPOSAL Edmonston is to contact Mr. Campbell to inform him that PRAB tabled his proposal because of another proposal which is pending for the Park. He will be contacted at a later date for a presentation. LAKE FAYETTEVILLE PROPOSAL J B. Hunt Chairman Waite will draft a letter on the position of PRAB concerning the use of Lake Fayetteville as proposed by Mr. Hunt. The following viewpoints were discussed: impact on Environmental Center; trading a prime park area for a less desirable area; lose and break agreement with the school system, trading FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT 113 W. MOUNTAIN 72701 (501) 521-7700 PRAB MINUTES - Regular Meeting - May 4, 1987 Page 2 LAKE FAYETTEVI.LLE PROPOSAL-J.B.HUNT-CONT'D private land for private gain; best use of the property; advantages versus disadvantages for the City; term of the requested lease; maintenance and upkeep of the property; capital asset for the City to obtain other park property in the Northeast section; determine how City could use the house; look into an appraisal of the property and the amount of property taxes for a 99 -year lease that would not have to be paid. PRAB is waiting for Hunt to respond with the items PRAB requested at the last PRAB meeting. IV. WILSON PARK CITY POOL Edmonston stated that Wilson Park City Pool will open on Memorial Weekend, May 23, at 12:00 NOON. Park Pool Staff is hired, and will start Inservice Training the week. of May 18. V. PARK VOLUNTEER PROGRAM REPORT Edmonston reported the following University groups assisted in painting,, cleanup, and special projects for the Fayetteville Parks: DATE PARK ''4-18 Walker Park Phi. PARK PROJECTS Clark updated PRAB on the status of the major park projects. PRAB noted that the following four items were behind schedule and were pending on City engineering services: 1. Sailboat pier and boatdock stalls at Lake Fayetteville 2. Waterline at Pah= Ruth Park 3. City Pool Deck Beams Renovation 4- Walker Park. North soccer field dirt work. • ) VII. VIII. MOUNTAIN 72701 (501) 521-7700 PRAB MINUTES -.Regular Meeting - May 4,_19.87 Page 3 SURVEY REQUEST As requested from City Director Bumpass, Mr. Burch. asked the Parks Department to draft a questionnaire to be distributed at the public schools concerning a new recreational center in the Northeast section of Fayetteville. OTHER BUSINESS Responding from a citizen's request, PRAB discussed the procedures for a noise ordinance waiver at Wilson Park.
