DRAWER F 72702 (501) 521.7700 PRAB April 15, 1985 The Parks and Recreation Advisory Baord came to order at 4:12 pm. Minutes: Minutes of the April 1, 1985 meeting were approved as mailed. (5-0) BUSINESS: I. Wilson Park Parking Lot: Jerry Sweetser, contractor for the building of the Wilson Parking Lot, sent a letter in that he successfully solicited funds from the material suppliers on the parking lot for $1,500 in which he requested that the funds be used. to improve existing parks. The donation was deposited into the Miscellaneous Park Improvement account. It was the consensus of the Parks Board to use the donation in Wilson Park. II. Wilson Park Wading Pool Addition: The City Board of Directors approved for the addition of a wading pool at Wilson Park Swimming Pool. Richard Naylor, Design Consultant has written the specifications and the item is out for competitive bidding. Bid Opening is April 19th at 10 an Room 326, City Hall. III. Lake Fayetteville Softball Complex Improvements: The City Board of Directors approved the reallocation of $10,000 from the Improvements of Finger and Walker Park North to Improvements at Lake Fayetteville Softball Complex. This gives a total of $40,000 for improvements to the Softball Complex. Projects to be improved are as follows: Dugouts on Field #1: (.City Carpentry - $3,875 ) $2,875 ($1,000 in General Budget) Topsoil field #3: $2,000 Tops for bleachers $16,380 Pitching & Hitting Tunnels $5,348 Irrigation System $9,053 Topsoil over drainage tiles & between fields Parking Lots - fill dirt, ballards & gravel (#3 culvert) Replace 2 water fountains on Field #1 $40,000 I • FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS PARKS AND RECREATION DEPARTMENT P. 0. Yarbrough expressed that the lights need to be reaimed for safety reasons, there needs to be more playground equipment, and a nightwatcher's light installed by the concession stand. IV. Volleyball Sand Court Proposal - Ozark Volleyball Club: The Ozark Volleyball Club requested that a second sand volleyball court be build at Lake Fayetteville South Shore Site parallel to the existing court. They also requested the City's support by providing equipment and labor with excavation and sand hauling amounting to approximately $875. MOTION: York/Waite The Parks Board recommended that Director Dale Clark work with the Ozark Volleyball Club in locating the site of the additional sand volleyball court at Lake Fayetteville South Shore Site. Motion passed 6-0 Discussion: The budget will have to be examined to see if the funds are available. V Charles Finger Park: Park Board discussed the barn that is budgeted to be renovated for $500. They were concerned with the safety of the existing barn to patrons of the park and also the vandalism to the barn. MOTION:Emerson/Melton To recommend' that the need for storeage in the 'existing barn at Charles Finger Park be reevaluated'. Motion passed '6-0 VI. Northeast Park Land Search: PRAB requested that Larry Wood from the Northwest Arkansas Regional Planning Office be invited to the next PRAB meeting concerning his search for park land in the northeast area of Fayetteville. VII. Civic Group Involvement in the Parks: PRAB requested that Connie Edmonston send a wish list of park projects and facilities needed in the parks to the local civic clubs. Spring Park Tour: The PRAB Spring Park Tour #1 is set for Saturday, April 27th from 8 am until noon starting at the new parking lot in Wilson Park. The second Park Tour date is set for Monday, May 6th starting at 4 pm until dark at the FYC (Harmon Playfield Parking Lot). IX. Summer PRAB Meeting Dates: MOTION. Emerson/Waite To set the summer PRAB meetings as follows: The 3rd Monday at 4pm in the months of June, July, August, and September. Motion passed 5-0 IX. VA Street - Gregory Park: Information is enclosed concern- ing the location of a northbound exit to Sycamore Street from the VA Hospital through Gregory Park. The City Board of Directors request PRAB's recommendation. The matter will be considered at the Saturday, April 27th PRAB Tour. (See enclosure I.)
