The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board came to order at 4:10 pm.
MINUTES: Minutes were approved as mailed.
BUSINESS:
1. Lake Fayetteville Request: A request by George Grimes
to lease part of the south side of Lake Fayetteville
Park for a location of a private concession. After some
discussion, the consensus of the PRAB was that it is
not a good idea to even consider allowing private
enterprises on public property.
2. Walker Park North and Finger Park Developments: Clark
reported that the parking lots at both parks are
virtually completed, the basketball goals are installed
and some of the park benches are installed and picnic
tables are in place at Finger Park. At Walker Park
the soccer fields have been lined off and will be ready
for fall useage.
Mr. York stated
again about the
near the Asbell
that the U of A should be contacted'
use of their vacant land on Lewis Avenue
soccer and softball complex.
3. Wilson Park Swimming Pool Report: Clark reported that
the pool attendance in swimming lessons and at
recreational swim times at Wilson Park has been very
good so far this summer. The Kiddie pool seems to
be much too crowded and plans should be made to build
a second area.
It was suggested that staff and Advisory Board members
contact local service clubs such as Lions, Rotary,
Kiwanis and others to see if they would be interested
in helping fund a second kiddie pool at Wilson Park.
4. State Parks and Recreation Association Meeting: Ryan
stated that the Arkansas State NRPA meeting would be
held in Fayetteville on September 16, 17, and 18, and
that the Parks Advisory Board members and staff should
plan on attending and participating in the state meeting.

5. Beautification of Highway 71 North Medians: In an effort
to continue the beautification of the medians along
Highway 71 North and to get participation from the
merchants, PRAB suggested that some method be developed
to recognize those businesses and merchants that do a
good job of beautifing the areas near their locations.
MEETING ADJOURNED: 5:40 pm
NEXT PRAB MEETING: Tuesday, July 24 at 4pm, City Hall Room 326.
