MINUTES: Minutes were approved as mailed for the August 23, 1983 meeting. BUSINESS: 1. Lake Fayetteville Environmental Center - Hal Brown: Hal Brown discussed that he would like to make a study of Gregory Park using part of the money donated by PRAB from their trust fund. This would cost approximately $300 to $400. He would use the science classes to help make a biological study of the park and would have their data checked by the University Department. The classes would also develop a sensory trail throughout the park. Woodland Junior High's Creative Writing class is also going to use the park as a.class project. Motion: Melton/Sego To take $300 to $400 from the Park Trust Fund for the Environmental Center to study Gregory Park. Unanimously approved. 2, Ozark Volleyball Club: Bob Emerson from the Ozark Volleyball Club presented the Board with pictures of the sand volleyball court built at Lake Fayetteville South Shore Site this summer. PRAB agreed to contribute matching funds (each $500) for the project in the April 13, 1982 meeting. The Park Maintenance Department has helped with the excavation and rough grading of the court equivalent to approximately $500. Mr. Emerson expained that the court ended up costing $1,886. The club was in need of paying off their outstanding debts to Meek Lumber for $183.58 and to Davidson Trucking for $575.80 (hauling of the sand). Mr. Emerson explained that it will take approximately $500 to $800 to put the sand court in number one shape. Motion: Sego/Melton To take $183.58 out of the Green Space Money donated from Parklane Apartments in the Northeast Park District if possible. Dale Clark will check into the matter. Lake Fayetteville South Shore Site: Dale Clark read a letter written to Pete Ramsey from John Campbell. Pete Ramsey is on the Chamber of Commerce Beautification Committee and referred the letter to the Parks and Recreation Department. Mr. Campbell recommended naming Lake Fayetteville South Shore site "Dogwood Park" because of the beautiful dogwood trees. PRAB will consider the recommendation for future reference. 4 Swim Pool Report: Connie Edmonston gave the following report of the swimming pool 1983 season: Total Attendance for the summer: 28,914 Opened 78 days consisting of 574 hours Closed 2 days due to weather and had Average daily attendance: 371 Average daily attendance during regular hours: Average daily attendance after school started: Average attendance on Saturdays: 324 Average attendance on Sundays: 289 Average attendance on weekends: 308 Highest daily attendance: 653 on Tuesday Noon Lap Swim Average: 25 Pool population Yearly Total to 1982 - 15,596 close in July early 5 days 417 160 Breakdown: 9% - Wading Pool 59Z - Grades K - 12 32% - Adults $13,127: 1981 - $12,191 $ 7,093: 1981 - $ 7,564 Admissions Revenues: $27,300; 1982 - Concession Revenues: $10,320; 1982 - Dale Clark reported that the City Pool came out approximately $2,000 to $3,000 ahead this year. 5. Autumnfest: Connie Edmonston reported that Autumnfest will be held on September 30, October 1 and 2. The Parks and Recreation Department is sponsoring the Grade School Art Contest, Children's Theatre Production, Belly Dancers Per- formance, Magic Show, Bicycle Decorating Contest, Picture with the Lion, and Pet Show. Frank Rackerby volunteered to help take the pictures for the lion and Bill Waite is going to be the MC and judge of the bicycle decorating contest. • • FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS P. 0. DRAWER F PRAB September 13 Page 3 rnm (501) 541.7700 6. Asbell Renovation: Dale Clark reported that bids for the renovation of Asbell Gym are due on September 20. 7. Walker Park North: Bill Waite reported that the Naval Reserve approved the agreement with the parking lot for Walker Park North. 8. Charles A. Finger Park: Dale Clark reported that the City Board of Directors approved for Al Einert to develop a Master Plan for Finger Park. 9. Lake Fayetteville: PRAB expressed their concern about the lilly pad problem and what needs to be done to resolve the problem. The Board suggested contacting the Arkansas Game and Fish, Extention Office, SCS Office, and other Park Departments as to means of solving the problem.
