MINUTES: Minutes were approved as mailed. BUSINESS: 1. Wilson Park Swimming Pool: Beverly Melton reported that the official opening and ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on Saturday, June 18 at 10 am. The winner of the mural contest for the pool was Albert Skiles. His entry was a large redwood whale mounted on a blue wall. Honorable mentions were presented to Robert Reep and Sue .Sargent . Judges of the contest recommended to have another contest when the mural is worn. It was the opinion of the judges that there was not enough prize money awarded. Mr. Skiles hopes to complete the mural by July 1. 2. Wilson Park Castle: Dale Clark reported that there were problems with algae growing the on castle. Rodney Ryan volunteered to ask Ed Dale from the University for assistance on the matter. 3. Wilson Park Master Plan: Connie Edmonston stated that Dr. Al Einert is working on a Master Plan of Wilson Park. He is also helping to prepare for the SBA Grant. 4. Walker Park North: Bill Waite said that Jim McCord has drawn up the contractual agreement with the Naval Reserve for the parking lot/basketball court to be located between Walker Park North and the Naval Reserve. It will be approximately one- month before the Reserve can sign the agreement and then Community Development will be ready to start on the project. 5. American Legion Baseball Field: David Lashley reported that he had visited with Tom Lavender about the status of the American Legion with the baseball field. PRAB is waiting for the American Legion to make a proposal concerning their field. 6. Babe Ruth Field Lights: Dale Clark reported that he is waiting for light bids to be approved by the City Board. Asbell Dirt Work: Dale Clark said that the dirt work for the softball and soccer fields is waiting final clearance from the school system. Northwest Engineers Inc. is the site supervisor. The Soccer Association requested for the soccer fields to be sprigged with grass. Dale said that he would seed the fields with burmuda, fescue and rye. 8 Asbell Gym Renovation: Dale Clark reported that the school system requested detailed plans for Asbell Gym before they consented to the project. 9. Washington Mountain: Bill Waite stated that he would get with Charlie Sego as to a written description of the site plan and parking lot for Washington Mountain land. 10. Lake Fayetteville Water Study: Dale Clark reported that he has not received any news from the Health Department concerning the water quality at Lake Fayetteville. David Lashley will contact Rick Johnson and Hal Brown as to procedures to take. 11. Children's Theatre: Connie Edmonston reported that Gary Cupp is the instructor for the Children's Theatre for this summer and hopefully also for the fall. There are sixteen students enrolled in the first session. The second session will begin on July 11. Connie also reported that the Parks Department was awarded $1600 in grant money from the Arkansas Arts Council for the salary of a children's theatre instructor for the 1983/84 grant year. An agreement with the University of Arkansas Drama Department will be made concerning a Graduate Assistant for the fall semester. 12. Lake Wilson: Dale Clark reported that the water is going over the spillway and that the dam is not holding water. Don Bunn is to take care of the problem. 13. Recreation Committee Report: Rodney Ryan reported that he has been visiting with Roy Nastasi from the University Music Depart- ment concerning a program of string music for children. He also recommended that the Board consider an Adult Theatre Program on the backburner. FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS F. 0. DRAWER F Page 3 PRAB Minutes June 14, 1983 72702 (501) 521.7700 14. Other Business: The Board discussed a fishing pond on the northwest corner of Walker Park by the Naval Reserve as a possibility in their long range plans. David Lashley will visit with Mr. Reed concerning the donation of land by Walker Park.
