PRAB MEETING
Minutes
October 12, 1982
The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board came to order at
4:15 pm at the Continuing Education Building.
MINUTES: Minuteswere approved.
BUSINESS:
1. Lake Fayetteville Environmental Study Center: Hal Brown
from the Environmental Study Center presented a slide
show to the Board. The Environmental Center was started
in 1974 as a result of Title III Federal Funds. The
Fayetteville and Springdale Schools have a fifty year
lease with the city forthe 360 acres. Brown stated
that he is getting high levels of organic and nutrient
waste in the lake. The water quality is getting worst
and he described the problem was similar to Beaver Lake.
Brown believes it is an environmental problem caused by
man's activity such as septic tanks, agriculture
practices and also from natural rainfall. The Board
expressed that they would like Brown to present his
study on Lake Fayetteville's water quality to the City
Board of Directors in December. .
Brown brought an estimate for fence repair around the
Environmental Center. Estimates were as follows:
Barb Wire - $90.00
3 Metal Gates - $300.00
25 Posts - $62.50
TOTAL: $452.50
The Center is having problems with vandalism and automabiles
in the area. The fence would protect the Center in which
Brown describes as an open public access. The Center has the
only trail for the blind in the southwest region and it
also has wheel chair trails. Brown also discussed the
possibility of having someone to live in a trailer by
Lakeview Drive to help patrol the area.
2. Sequoyah Kiwanians Pavilion Donation: Dale Clark reported
that the Sequoyah Kiwanians would like to donate a pavilion
in the kitty play area at the Lake Fayetteville Softball
Complex. It was the consensus of the Board that the pavilion
would be very beneficial in that area. Plans will be
made and presented to the City Board of Directors for
approval.
