HomeMy WebLinkAbout1981-02-28 - Minutes• • • • February 28, 1981 The Swim Pool Committee met in the parlour of Central United Methodist Church from 8.00 am to 2:00 pm. A11 six committee members were present. Those who had signed up for interviews were given 45 minutes (30 for presentation - 15 for question and answer). In order of interview times, those that made presentations were: 1. Neal Albright, engineer and Richard Nailor, Paradise Continental, construction 2. John Mahaffey and Paul Mattke, Engineers 3. Clarence and Paul Young, Architects 4. Baxter Smith, Seaside Pools 5. Delvin Nation, architect and McClelland Engineers 6. Hailey, Powers and Froning architects and McGoodwin, Williams and Yates, engineers 7. Bracket and Krennerich, architects, Jonesboro, Ar. Following the presentations, discussion was carried on to determine a priority list. Final decision was: (in priority) t 1. Hailey, Powers and Froning, architects McGoodwin, Williams and Yates, Engineers 2. Paul Young and Associates, architects who will work With McGoodwin, Williams and Yates, Engineer s- 3. Delvin Nation and Associates, architects and McClelland Engineers The committee was extremely impressed with Richard Nailor of• Paradise Continental, contractor, and his. apparent degree of competency and knowledge about this specific type of pool project. He was highly recommended by one of our committee members as having a very high quality reputegtion. Although all made good presentations, only three could be chosen. The others were placed fourth or lower because of: (In order of presentation) 1. Neal Albright, Engineer and Richard Nailor, contractor Lack of architectural expertise for buildings, general layout and landscaping. 2. John Mahaffey and Paul Matkee, engineers Lack of architectural expebtise for buildings,' general layout and landscaping. 3. Baxter Smith of Seaside Pools Lack of architectural expertise for Buildings, general layout and landscaping. 4. Brackett and Kennerich, architects of Jonesboro, Ar. The committee was highly impressed with'the apparent ability of architectual integrity this firm has shown in past recreational areas. Many good suggestions could be used. The distance of supervision by this small firm (3 people) was of great concern. It is felt there should be more than 1 to 2 days overseeing a week. • • 2-28-81 (2) The committee will present these three names, in priority standing, to the Parks and Recreation Committee for their approval and for City Board approval.
