ADVISORY BOARD MEETING
9-6-1973
ATTENDANCE: Ryan, Marshall, Winborn, Thomason, Mrs. Reagan, Airs. Broyles,Lashley,
Clark and White. Others were Mr. Grimes -City Manager, Hrs. Orton -City
Council, Walter Watkins, John E Box, Sr., A. Haugh, James Irwin,
Espen Walters and Austin Cravens of Springdale, Janie Noggle from
N.W. Ark. Times and John Winn.
The Springdale Parks & Recreation Committee ds well as members of the
Springdale City Council, was in attendance to discuss the progress at Lake Fay-
etteville. Mr. Box -Springdale, requested ieorssation re Turner St. entrance to
Lake Fayetteville and was assured that street entrances were among the first
priorities. Other questions that were posed was the possibility of annexing a
portion of Late Fayetteville to Springdale as well as the possibility of a name
change from Lake Fayetteville to one that wo•'aid.indicate the entire area. The
Springdale group was assured that at some future date a name change could 'oe
considered, but for now would like to stay with present Name for identification
purposes.
Dr. Ryan outlined the Fayetteville Parks & Recreation Advisory Board's
hopes that Fayetteville and Springdale can work together to raise $30,000 to match
the Levi Strauss pledge of $30,000. Dr. Ryan requested a committee from Springdale
be appointed to *:cork with the committee of Lashley, Thomason, and Clark on Lake
Fayetteville.
Mrs. Orton presented a cony of an ordinance, which requires open space
be set'aside for Parks in new sub -divisions that are to be built. This iteth was
tabled fer study ' ntil f?xttieeting sirs. Orton mentioned that one Mr. DeSota might
be interested in designing and building climbing structures in one or more park
areas.
John Winn made a regaaest for bicycle caths in and around the Fayetteville
area. Mr. Winn asked if he could prepare a bicycle safety program and present it
fcr a future meeting and tbe Board agreed to consider such a proposal.
Mr. Grizies asked the Board to consider a Careen Belt, possibly later use,
in a nev.sub-division being planned. See encicsure3 The Gree Belt proposal to be
considered at the next meeting.
