The meeting was called to order by the Chairman, David Lashley ewers
present were: t;argaret 111poten x�Broyles, David Lashley', rB andon;
Rodney Ryan,(Claude Sutton; en 14inbe.n; Dale Clark,
Mr, Dale Clark, the new Parks and Recreation Director was introduced at
this time,
Mr. Wesley Howe, City Manager, stated that the Board of Directors had not
yet made a decision as to whether Ben Il nth Aria Rill Brandon would be reappointed
to the Parks and Recreation Advisory Board,
The first item of business was the election of officers, Mr. Brandon made
a motion that the same officers be reelected, David Lashley - Chairran, Barbara
Broyles - Vice -Chairman, and Rodney Ryan "Secretary, This motion was seconded
by Margaret "dooten and the motion was approved unanimously,
Hr, John Teas, President of the Fayetteville Chapter of the National Tennis
Association, stated that tennis playing is going to increase this year and asked
the Board if any improvements are going to be made in the near future on the tennis
• courts in the City Park, Mr, Teas also asked Fer7dssion to put up Challenge Boards
in the City Park,
trr, Clark made a motion that the Tennis Association be allowed to put the
Challenge Boards up, if they would take care of the up keep on it, Mrs. Broyles
seconded the motion and it was passed unanimously with everyone agreeing that Mr.
Clark help choose a suitable location for the Challenge Boards,
Mr. Brandon asked if a person has to be a member of the National Tennis
Association to play on the City Tennis Courts, and how the players decide who
gets the use of the courts at a given time. IIr. Sutton, stated that he is
concerned that the members of the Terris Association would take up so much
time on the tennis courts that other people would not have a chance to play,
ccA decision was made by all meetbers that a set of rules and regulations and
aridOpeII time will De drawnllp and posted near the tenniourts at the City Park,
Mr. Teas stated that more tennis courts are needed than the four courts that
are in use now, Mr. Lashley explained that the four courts at Fayetteville High'
School are almost finished and that the public has access to them and needs to
start using them,
/ Mr, Teas asked if there is any possibility of getting new nets and if there
is, said that the Tennis Association would like to help Fay for them,
• A discussion was held on cloth nets and metal nets. Mr. Ryan said that the
University had cloth rets and they had been destroyed and had to be replaced
several times, The Board decided to have Mr. Clark check into the net materials
and give a reco.::mendation,

Kr. Brandon made a report of the approximate cost of putting in r..eter lights
• at the tennis courts in the City Pari, Mr. Winborr, suggested getting a detailed
cost.
Mr. Lashley stated that he thinks the tennis courts and the dressing rooms
should be delayed until a discussion is held on the proposed gymnasium,
Mr. Lashley said that he had taken the plans of the gymnasium to Brennan -
Boyd Construction Company and that they had revised the plans to cut down the
cost but not the use of the building. He then took the detailed specifications
to eir. Winborn and Mr. Vandergriff who asked John Marinoni to estimate the cost
of a metal building with rough plumbing (no fixtures), without partitions, floor
covering, or lights. Mr. ?iarincni estimated the cost of the building at $30,264.
Mr. Winborn
stated
that
the school
will give a site for
the gymnasium and
that Root school
needs
it the
most with
Asbell School next in
line.
Mr. Ryan made a motion that they go ahead with the plans for the gymnasium
and let Ioir. Winborn take these plans to the School Board, then see how much money
is needed and check the possibilities of a fund drive. The motion was seconded
by fir. Sutton and approved unanimously.
Mr. Ryan stated that Mr. Cid Willbanks Acould be in Fayetteville the follo:;,ing
week to speak on outdoor recreation.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m.
