Board of Trustees
Regular Meeting
May 21, 2001

Board members present: L. Gottsponer, M. Thomas, B. Schaffer, L. Brewer, S. Singleton. R.
Alexander, M Roberts was out of town . Staff members present were: L. Schaper, C. Rew, S.
Thomas and L. Greenwood. Others Present; Jeff Scherer, Jim Foster, Leanne Larson, David
Norman, Travis Brooks, Sean Wagner, Martha Brewer, and Kay Pickett.
The meeting was called to order at 4:07 p.m. by L. Gottsponer.. R. Alexander moved to approve the
minutes of the April 16, 2001 meeting, L. Brewer seconded, all voted aye.
Library Reports: Board noted continued increases of service areas from previous year. This is
running at about 14%. L. Greenwood reported all games on children computers were now on the C
drives and not on the server, eliminating most problems. Rew reported utilities appear to be
stabilizing.
Old Business:
• B. Schaffer moved to amend the Family and Medical Leave Act of 1993 (FMLA) by adding the
sentence "This policy will become effective when Fayetteville Public Library becomes a
covered employer." M. Thomas seconded and all voted aye.
• The collection development policy was presented for informational proposes only, comments
to follow.
• After clarification of the terms reconsider (remove) and reclassify (put in a different place), L.
Brewer moved and R. Alexander seconded changing the time period for action from 30 days
to 60 days and adding "3. Decisions on requests for reclassification will be make by the library
director in consultation with library staff and if not resolved, submitted to the Board" All voted
aye.
• Jeff Scherer, Sean Wagner, David Norman, and Jim Foster presented an update on progress
toward large-scale development, with a timeline and information on how this works. They also
explained project delivery issues concerning low bid versus construction management.
New Business:
None noted.
M. Thomas moved and R. Alexander seconded to adjourn, all voted aye. The meeting adjourned at
505
