Board of Trustees Building Expansion Meeting July 19, 1999
Trustees present were M. Thomas (arrived late), S. Singleton, L. Brewer, M. Goff, M. Roberts, L.
Gottsponer and M. Lawrence. Staff member present was L. Schaper. Members of the press
present were Matt Wagner (NWA Times) and Laura Kellams (AR Dem. Gazette).
L. Gottsponer, Vice President, called the meeting to order at 4:02 p.m.
1. M. Roberts moved to accept the minutes from June 21. L. Brewer seconded. All voted aye.
2. L Schaper said the City Selection Committee is meeting Tuesday, July 20 to select or select
the process for selecting the architect. Five proposals were received including: Meyer Scherer
and Rockcastle, Polk Stanley Yeary, Wittenberg Delony and Davidson, Moore Pumphrey, and
Information Systems Consultants, Inc.
3. L. Schaper said only one proposal (North Group) from fundraising consultants has been
received. M. Roberts questioned why so much time is needed to write the report. S. Singleton
wondered if cost could be linked to success of the campaign.
4. L. Schaper shared what happened at the latest Exploratory Committee meeting. The group
identified (1) what's important to Fayetteville citizens, (2) what we should emphasize that will
resonate in our community; (3) what is the validity of the library's sense of impact; and (4) how
would we position the project regionally?
5. Land acquisition was discussed. City attorneys will draft an option to purchase with
consideration to be presented to City Council.
6. M. Thomas moved to adjourn. M. Goff seconded. All voted aye. The meeting adjourned at
4:19 p.m.
