Board of Trustees Regular Meeting
April 19, 1999
Trustees present were M. Thomas, S. Singleton, M. Goff, L. Brewer, L. Gottsponer. Absent were M.
Lawrence and M. Roberts. Staff members present were L. Schaper, C Rew, S. Thomas, P.
Lawrence and M. Saxon.
I. The meeting was called to order on 4/19/99 at 5:20 p.m. Because S. Singleton had to leave
the meeting early and because there would not be a quorum after he left, the order of the
meeting agenda was altered so that business requiring a Board decision was handled before
S. Singleton left.
II. L. Gottsponer moved to approve the minutes of 3/15/99. S. Singleton seconded. All
voted aye.
III. S. Singleton moved to approve a request to return $38,581 to the long tens
development fund. L Brewer seconded. All voted aye.
IV. L. Gottsponer moved to go into executive session to discuss two personnel matters.
M. Goff seconded. The Board went into executive session at 5:20 p.m. with staff
members L. Schaper and G Rew remaining. S. Singleton moved and M. Goff
seconded to move out of executive session. All voted aye. At 5:40 p.m. the executive
session ended. A short break was taken.
V: At 5:42 p.m. the Board went back into regular session. S. Singleton left the meeting. The
remainder of the agenda was covered with no decision being made.
VI. Director's Report: 1) Possible pension changes were discussed. G Rew is working on cost
for these improvements. 2) L. Schaper thanked the Board for the ability of three staff
members to attend the PLA workshop on planning, designing, and building the perfect
library.
VII. Accountants Report: 1) C Rew said she thinks we need to put in a security system to
prevent theft and that we can afford to do so. We will have to continue the Guardtronics
system since FPL is using its smoke detectors through the ORL system. 2) There is still
$2000 left in QP for lights improvement. We are planning to upgrade ballasts in the rest of
the building. 3) M. Goff stated she would like to see the Orwell fund moved to growth and
income type investments.
VIII. Service Reports: Aduh Services—. Children's Services—L. Schaper reported on summer
reading and The History Channel Great Race to be held Friday, June 11. The city with the
best show will win $5000 for its public library.
DC Motion: M. Goff moved for adjournment at 6.30 p m. L. Brewer seconded. All voted
aye.
