HomeMy WebLinkAbout1999-02-16 MinutesFayetteville Public Library., Board' of Trustees Bgilditig Ezpansioh Meeting • February 16,1999. . Trustees present were M. Thomas, S. Singleton, M. Roberts, M. Lawrence, and L. Brewer. Absent were: M. Goff and L. Gottsponer. Staff members present were L Schaper, C. Rew, 5. Thomas. Incoming staff member, Pam Lawrence, was also present. I. The meeting was called to order on 2/15/99 at 4:00 p.m. II. L Schaper introduced Pam Lawrence. Pam has been hired as the half-time Manager of Volunteer Services. She will begin employment in early March. III. Motion: M. Roberts moved to approve the minutes of 1/18/99. S. Singleton seconded. All voted aye. IV. L. Schaper said that the contract for services with Meyer Scherer and Rockcastle has been extended to do phase II for $34,465. Architect Jeff Scherer has already begun this phase. She explained again that In phase II two options will be explored: 1) either a new building or an expanded building on the site; and 2) a new building on another downtown site. V. The schedule for the architect's visits and timeline was handed out Key meetings for the Board will be: A. Wednesday, February 24 at 7 p.m. In City Administration Building B. Thursday, February 25 at 4 p.m. in Library's Board room C. Thursday, March 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the Library's Board room D. Sunday, March 7 at 2 p.m. In the Library's Board room E. Wednesday, March 17 at 4 p.m. in the Library's Board room. There will be a number of other public meetings to which the Board is encouraged to attend. Louise will distribute the list as soon as its available. VI. A discussion of other sites took place. S. Singleton contacted several organizations regarding site availability. The Montgomery Ward slte has almost half of its square footage underground. The owners will not sell and they will only do a 5 year lease. The old County Courthouse has more severe problems than the existing fealty and has many floors and doors. The property owners of the large undeveloped track just east of the Library are not interested In selling. L. Schaper reported on another undisclosed site for which she has sought permission to do the building study. VII. L Schaper reported on the letter from County Attomey, George Butler regarding a possible extension of the County parking lot. VIII The list generated by staff of building problems and potential service improvements was discussed. IX. L Schaper recounted the process of how she thought the recommendation about the building options would need to be made, i.e. Board recommend to the City Council. X. M. Roberts moved to adjourn; S. Singleton seconded. All voted aye. The meeting was adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
