HomeMy WebLinkAbout1950-12-12 MinutesMinutes of the Library Board �.{ December 12,1950 The Fayetteville Public Library Board held its regular monthly meeting on December 12,1950 at WOO p.m.,Mr.McWhorter presiding. Members present were Mr.MeWhorter,Miss Vaulx,Mrs.Watsom,Mr.Greenhaw,and Mr.MCMillen. Mrs.Deal also met with the Board. The minutes for the October meeting were read and approved. The Treasurers report showed a balance,$3100.69 in the First National Bank. The Librarians report showed that the circulation for November was 3246, an increase of over 600 over the month before.The circulation for the month of November 1949 was 2468. Mrs.Deal reported that now the story hour.for children was being held for groups of forty or fifty instead of for approximately 180 that usually attend.Lack of time and spaee,however,maked it impossible to take them all weekly.The story hour is not to be held in the Civic Club rooms,Mrs.Dea.l reported,because.of the tendency for children to leave after the story piour without going into the Library to check out books.The story hour is an- nounced at the public schools,in the daily paper,and over the radio. Mrs.Deal reported further that 394 more books had been catalogued and that the total now catalogued is 9589,of which 2008 are children's books. She•also stated that 712 books are in the stacks from the County Library. In reply to Dr.Barnett Surets offer to sell the Library three albums of records for'$12,it was voted to decline the offer. It was voted to authorize the additional expenditure of 51000 for books. The.Librarian is authorized to use as much as $250 of this amount for the Negro library service.' It was voted to authorize the purchase of double shades for all the Library windows.' It was voted to accept with regret the resignation of Mrs.Vincenheller and to ask.Miss Vaulx to write her a letter expressing the appreciation of the Board. for her many years of faithful service as member and treasurer. It was voted to elect Mrs.Lowell Chaney as member of the Board and treas- urer to fill out the unexpired term of Mrs.Vincenheller and ask Mrs.44atson to inform her of her election. Ad..journed.
