ARKANSAS i;Ia4L1* ii, PLPGILT During the year 1948 the library received by purchase 441 books and by gift 127 with 78 discarded, leaving a total 0£ 19,798 (according to accession books). No doubt many of these are missing as will be revealed by the inventory ,which I hope to make as sonn as a shelf list can be made. 7 of the gift books were for the laiemorial shelf . A total of 240040 books, including 8479 Fiction, 2056 cur- rent periodicals, 28 records and 10580 juvenile books were cir- 17Hqy eulated to approximatelynusers. This number included an approxi- mate 3036 users of the reference and reading room. With an added 236 juvenile borrowers and 356 adult borrowers .y our files now total 7973 registered borrowers, y355.08 in fines, 6;,17.50 in fees, .;5.93 for lost or damaged : books and 4'129.20 from rental books have been collected at the desk* cj354.40 was paid out for labor, supplies ,etc. Along with the increased circulation (an increase of 1664 books over last year) I have noted a steady increase in the last three months in the use of the reading room, of the cur0ellit periodicals, in the use of the reference material and in the number of reference problems brought to the desk. In every way I believe the use of the library has increased,
