HomeMy WebLinkAbout1948-04-13 MinutesMinutes of the Library Board April 13,1948 The Library Board met in regular session on April 13,1948 at 7$00 p.m. at the Library. Members prAsent were Mr.McWhorter,Miss Vaulx,Mrs.Swartz, and Mr.McMillen. The minutes of the March meeting were read and approved. The report of the Librarian was read and is filed with these minutes. The report of the Treasurer showed a balance in the First National Bank of $528.39. As a quorum was not present,no further business was transacted. Adjourned. O.W.MeMillen.Secretary I wrote to the Arkansas Gazette for their subscription price and found it too expensive for library needs-tS.50 per Year. "e had an announcement from the Marquis Company, publishers of ?'Nn'S `'`70 IN 45]RI.CA about their discount standing offer. If we place a standing offer with them (cancellable at any time by us) we will get a 15% discount on all volumes. Otherwise we apparently do not receive any discount at all. I use these volumes daily, and although they seem quite expensive, are of great value. Should we place the standing order? The volume ready now costs t'11.55. "'e received a check this week from the Business and Professional ":'omen's Club for twelve dollars for children's books. The Library has recently become a very popular place for the seekers of the "T''alking Man". Many people have learned to use and apnmciate our reference books. One lady even spends part of her lunch hour here every day now since she became interested in the library through this means. The bound magazines were returned from the bindery in February. The bill amounted to nearly tWO . Should I wait till next year to send more to the bindery, or prepare more this year? A window blew out of the directors room recently. The ?anitor nailed a piece of board over it, and said he would order a win- dow and replace it the next day. He has not replaced it ,yet. Many people have expressed their appreciation for the steps being mended. One man said that all we lacked now was a new paint job on the stairway hall. If it is all right with the Roard, I would like to take two or three days off Easter to go home with my husband. He lives too far away for us to go anytime except when the TTiveasity has a holiday. Patricia plans to work during the Easter vacation since she will be out of shcool also, and she is quite capable of taking care of the library.
