This was the largest.since Marcg, 1943, when it was 2,100. Donations to the Library of one dollar each were made by Miss Helen Ruppel and Mr. Lucius A..Allen. The task of revising the accession books has finally been completed. We accounted for I0.,784 volumes listed up to February first, I945, Altogether, I7,302 books had been accessioned since the Library was founded; hence, 6,516 are worn out, lost, or missing. It is very likely that some of the missing ones may turn up yet. We shall endeavor to keep accurate records of books added and with- drawn, so that there will be no more guess work. We possess 250 or 300 books which have been given by various persons, but which we have not yet accessioned. Some duplicates are being kept to replace books as they wear out. Other are gradually being classed and listed. Now that we have more shelf room, this absorl)tion into the main collection can go on more rapidly. The City Engineer gave us about 60 bricks, which Mrs. Chaney is skillfully covering with paper to serve as book supports. With the new shelves we needed more.
