Advertising RE: Hot Air Balloon Evaluation After reviewing the hot air balloon proposal submitted by John Strack and Dee Deitz we offer the following comments and recommendation. These are based on using the balloon as an advertising medium. - We agree that Hot Air Balloons are attention getting and create excitement wherever they appear. The Hot Air Balloon Events do receive alot of publicity. - While it is appealing to have the Fayetteville logo and 800 # appear on the balloon, we question the number of responses it would actually generate. And also question the conversion of those responses. - Using the colorful balloon in advertising would be great if there was a balloon event held locally. It does not really represent Fayetteville. - The following shows different media and their average cost to reach 1000 people; MEDIA AVG. COST PER THOUSAND National Magazine Ad $5 - $6 Regional Magazine Ad $15 Television Spot $15 Radio Spot $20 Billboard $2.50 HOT AIR BALLOON existing/200m exposure - Year 1 $75 Year 2 $30 BLACKWOOD/MARTIN & ASSOCIATES, INC. 3 EAST COLT SQUARE DRIVE • FAYETTEVILLE, AR 72703 POST OFFICE BOX 1968 • FAYETTEVILLE, AR 72702-1968 PHONE 501-442-9803 • FAX 501-442-3092 American Association of Advertising Agencies • Promotion Martoting Association of Aca • • • RECOMMENDATION: It is our recommendation that a Hot Air Balloon Sponsorship is not an efficient or effective advertising vehicle to generate tourism inquiries. While it does attract attention it does not enable us to communicate Fayetteville's attributes, location and events as well as the traditional media currently being used. This is necessary in generating quality responses.
