MINUTES OF REGULAR MEETING OF THE
HOUSIIC AUTHORITY OF FAYETTEVILLE, ARKANSAS
The regular meeting of the Housing Authority of Fayetteville, Arkansas,
was held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, 1966, in the Board of
Directors' Room in the City Administration Building in Fayetteville,
Arkansas.
Members present: Hal Douglas, J. E. Pomfret, Bill Gould, Ellis Shelton
and L. L. Baxter. (All members were present.)
Others present: Planning Consultant J. A. Vizzier and City Manager
Gerald Fox.
The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Ellis Shelton. The
Chairman had not arrived at the meeting.
The Planning Consultant was asked to report to the Housing Authority on
progress being made.
Mr. Vizzier told the Housing Authority that City Manager Gerald Fox and
he had been asked by Mayor Don Trumbo, Jr., to do some research to
determine how long it would take to prepare and file 'a n application for
public housing. The time estimates figured were shown in a letter to
Mayor Trumbo. Copies of the letter were presented to the Housing Authority
for discussion.
The Planning Consultant reported on his trip to Little Rock. He said
while there he talked with Clifton Giles of the Housing Authority in
Little Rock. Mr. Vizzier asked Mr. Giles, who had worked on four urban
renewal projects in Little Rock, if he would be interested in an urban
renewal project in Fayetteville. Mr. Vizzier suggested he look at
Fayetteville's proposal and tell us what he thought about the proposal.
Mr. Vizzier said Mr. Giles understood the gesture would not be a commit-
ment. Mr. Vizzier, however, did remark that finding an experienced
director would be Fayetteville's main problem. Someone with experience
could save a great deal of time.
The Planning Consultant also pointed out that since the Downtown
Association is interested in urban renewal, George Wildgen, Executive
Director of Urban Progress Association, Inc., could talk to Fayetteville's
Downtown Association. Both Mr. Wildgen and Mr. Giles could visit
Fayetteville at the same time. Mr. Vizzier said the Board of Directors
might be interested in some of the points which will be brought out by
Mr. Giles and Mr. Wildgen and perhaps they should attend.
There was discussion had on financing the trip for Mr. Giles and
Mr. Wildgen. Hal Douglas said he felt the Downtown Association was in a
position to take care of the expenses. It was suggested the two gentlemen
be invited to Fayetteville as soon as possible and whenever convenient
for them.

L. L. Baxter arrived at the meeting.
The Housing Authority further discussed with the Planning Consultant
filing an application for an urban renewal project. Mr. Vizzier said
normally the planning is done and then an application is filed, but both
could be done and perhaps save some time.
Hal Douglas moved to adjourn. The motion was seconded by J. E. Pomfret
and passed unanimously. The meeting was adjourned.
