HomeMy WebLinkAbout1966-02-16 - Minutes - Archive14INUTES OF A REGULAR PdEETING OF THE HOUSING AUTHORITY OF FAYETTEVI_LLE, ARKANSAS A regular meeting of the Housing Authority of Fayetteville, Arkansas,.taas held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 16, 1966, in the Board of Directors' Room in the City Administration Building in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Members present: Hal Douglas, J. E. Pomfret, Ellis Shelton and Bill Gould. Members absent: L. L. Baxter. Others present: Planning Consultant J. A. Vizzier, City Controller A. J. Jones and City Attorney Hugh Kincaid. The meeting was called to order by Vice Chairman Ellis Shelton who presided in the absence of Chairman L. L. Baxter. Vice Chairman Shelton turned the meeting over to Planning Consultant Jim Vizzier for a report on progress being made on the application for an urban renewal project. Mr. Vizzier informed the members that a representative of the Public Hous- ing Administration had notified Mayor G. E. Brown he would be in Fayetteville on February 23 to secure additional economic data in con- nection with a pending application for low rent housing. The representative will assist the Housing Authority with its application, and he vd.11 answer any questions about the program. Also, Mr. Vizzier reported on the items needed to recertify the Workable Program. He briefly explained the need and purpose of an active Citizens Advisory Committee. The activation of the Citizens Advisory Committee was one requirement for the recertification of the Workable Program for 1966 - 1967. The adoption of a comprehensive code enforcement plan also was an essential item for recertification. Various maps of the city were used by the Planning Consultant to explain areas ideal for urban renewal projects. Mr. Vizzier said he felt the first project should be a commercial one. The "Downtown" area would be the most desirable commercial area. It was pointed out by Mr. Vizzier that more credits could be obtained from this particular commercial urban renewal project. When asked what progress had been made on the urban renewal project, Mr. Vizzier said now the city is applying for its 701 planning grant. By the time this 701 planning grant is approved, the Housing Authority should have approved the application for an urban renewal project. The application will then be ready to submit to the Board of Directors for acceptance by resolution. The application would then be forwarded to Fort Worth. The members of the Housing Authority were pleased with the progress being February 16, 1966 Page 7 made and urged the Planning Consultant to proceed with the work on the urban renewal project.
