We now have to have two retirees and two active firefighters on the board to comply with the new law. The current retiree on the board, Darrell Judy, has another year to go on his term. The members whose terms expire this year are John Dill and Mike Bonaduce. One of them will have to be replaced by a retiree. Therefore, I am now taking nominations for an additional retiree on the board. You may either call your nomination in to me (575-8365), mail it in, or drop it by my office. Please be sure before nominating someone that the person is willing to serve. The position is a two year term, expiring in May, 1993. The deadline for nominations is 5:00 P.M., Friday, May 10. Shortly after that I will be sending you a ballot with all nominees names. We will continue to vote on a run off system (if necessary), until one nominee has a clear majority, that is more votes than all the others combined. Another change in the law is a requirement that the "retired members shall elect the retired member or members by secret written ballot in May of each year--." We have interpreted this provision to exclude "active members" (current fire department personnel) and widows and others receiving benefits as beneficiaries of deceased retired members. Thus ballots will only be sent to current retired members. I hope this is all satisfactory to you. Feel free to call me if you have questions or comments. Thank you very much. 309 W.
