August 5, 1974
The regular monthly meeting of the Firemen's Pension and Relief Board
was held on August 5, 1974 at 4:30 P.M. in the Fayetteville City Manger's
Office.
Present: Donald L. Grimes, Chairman; Pat Tobin, Treasurer; Darlene
Westbrook, Secretary; and Fire Pension Board Members Larry
Poage, Don Miller, RorialdnMcArthurthand Fire Chief Charles
McWhorter
Absent; N. D. McChristian
The meeting was called to order by Donald Grimes, Chairman, and following
roll call, the Chairman asked if there were any amendments or additions
to be made to the minutes of the July 1, 1974 meeting. There being no
corrections or additions, Charles McWhorter made a motion to approve the
minutes as submitted. The motion was seconded by Ronald McArthur and was
passedonla unanimous vote of the Board.
Mr. Grimes then placed the consideration of the August pension list before
the Board. Chief McWhorter reported that Mr. Allen Strain had deceased and
that his name had been stricken from the August pension list as he had no
immediate survivors. Mr. Tobin reported that Mr. Strain's July pension
payment had been pro -rated for the portion of July that he was living.
There being no further discussion concerning the pension list, Chief
McWhorter made a motion to approve the pension list for the month of
August. Larry Poage seconded the motion and the Board members voted
unanimously to approve the list.
An.application for pension funds made by Harold Lee was then submitted to
the Board by Chief McWhorter. Mr. Lee, whose retirement was effective
July 15, 1974, had served as a part -paid fireman for twenty years. Ties
monthly pension payment for Mr. Lee will be $45.00 and his payment for
the month of July will be pro -rated from his retirement date. Larry Poage
made a motion to accept the application and Don Miller seconded the motion.
The motion was passed unanimously and the application was signed by the
Board members present. Chief McWhorter told the Board that he would
obtain the signature of Mr. McChristian on August 6.
The Treasurer, Pat Tobin, then reported that the Pension Board had cash
funds in the amount of $14,000. Chief McWhorter thought a certificate
in the amount of $152,000 had matured on July 31, 1974, but after Mr.
Tobin had checked the records it was found the certificate would mature
on July 31, 1977 and was receiving 7.25 percent interest. A certificate
in the amount of $136,000, which was approved by the Board members on
July 1, 1974 to be invested at First Federal Savings and Loan, is earning
8.5 percent.

There being no further business, a motion was made by Larry Poage to adjourn
the meeting. The motion, seconded by Chief McWhorter, was passed in a
unanimous vote of the Board. Chairman Grimes then declared the meeting
adjourned.
